Feb 23-28 To start the week, the temps were
well below zero as Luke ran to the bus. Every morning he runs to the school bus
as fast as his little legs will go. I am sure the cold is a good motivator.
Today Jacob made hard tack for part of his history lesson. He is learning about
the food civil war soldiers ate. Hard tack is as hard as a brick and will last
up to 3 years. Yummy. Jayden decided she wanted to make a pie. It took a couple
phone calls to Grammer, but she made the pie with pie crust from scratch and it
turned out delicious.
Tuesdays excitement, Jacob had a loose dangling molar tooth that he pulled. After he pulled it, he got to messing with another tooth, exactly opposite of the one he just lost, and pop, out that one came and it accidently fell in the sink drain. The tooth fairy still brought $5. Wednesday public school was cancelled before the first snowflake fell, based on the upcoming 6-10 inch snowfall. We still did school and Luke had a few things to do, reading, writing, and math. He is so good with math it blows my mind. Thursday in the wee hours, Luke woke up with a stomach ache and threw up. Once again he hit the carpet, ugh! Since we have gotten new carpet, Luke never seems to miss. The old carpet, not once did we have an accident. Go figure. He was sick all morning, then laid in the chair all day. Friday he popped out of bed and announced he was doing so well he could do push ups. Not long after, he realized he was still sick and back into the chair he went for the rest of the day. Jacob took Iowa basic skills tests on Tuesday and Thursday. He took his tests with a couple of other homeschool kids we did not know. They were so eager and excited and loved taking tests. By Saturday I was ready to get out and go somewhere. Too many days at home with a sick child. Saturday night we all went out to dinner in Jefferson for Chinese food.

Jayden has had the bug to ride. She
watches the forecast and finds the warmest day of the week, sometimes it jut
barely makes the 20’s. Even though we have an amazing heated arena, it is still
hard to go out when it is in the negatives to catch horses and ride. It is hard
on the animals too. She has been riding weekly and often rides with her friend
Makenna. She likes to ride two to 3 horses each time she rides. The other day i took a video of Jayden walking in front of her horse. She was not leading him, walked about 3 feet in front of him and he followed her like a puppy. When she stopped, he would stop, she even weaved through the poles and over the jump and he just followed. He is a neat horse. Jayden came up with the idea to bling halters and bell boots to sell. She has made some really snazzy halters and hopes to sell a few on ebay or other sites.
It has been a cold month of February. I am hoping for warmer temperatures in March. Good Bye February!
