Trick-or-treat
fell in the middle of the week, so I had to have a plan to get everyone back
home at a decent time. I knew if we didn't start early it wouldn't happen. We
had supper at 4:30, were in costume and out the door by 5. For the past month,
I told Jayden she was too old this year, being a teenager and all. At the last
minute I thought she might as well if she wants to. So that meant the day of
Halloween finding a costume.I was scrapping up what little was left at
the store. If it was in her size, that was all there was for choices. Very slim
pickings! Luke was all set to be a fire fighter, as long as he had his homemade
axe. I was happy to put that super cute costume Jake wore to use again. Jake
always has to come up with his own creation. This year he was a hunter dressed
in camouflage. They looked pretty good, I must say.
Our first stop was to meet the new neighbors. Just a few miles southwest, a family moved into the old bed and breakfast house. They fixed it all up and built a big horse arena, go figure. Their family was interviewed and on television. Their family all moved here from Oregon since their son is in vet school. I was anxious to meet them and trick or treating seemed the perfect time. I met the mother, she was very nice. Next in route was the Bakleys’. An elderly family that has adored our kids. They look so forward to us stopping to trick or treat each year. I met them in searching for our missing dog years ago. We visited and they gave the kids handfuls and handfuls of chocolate candies. Next was Marva jean, she always does latex gloves with candy corn for finger nails and filled with popcorn. She enjoys lots of visiting too. Next Linde and Julie’s store. They were expecting the kids and had king size candy bars and insisted we take several. I explained to the kids that visiting these people is what Halloween is all about. It means so much more to them to have us visit awhile. Last we went to Dayton, swooped through the nursing home and several houses. I am not a big fan of trick or treating at houses I don’t know. It just seems so awkward to ask total strangers to give you candy. What a wacky holiday anyway. Next on the way out of town Chuck and Linda, then last to Grammer and Po’s. It was a fun night and the kids got lots of candy.
