This year we have had an abundance of apples. We had 5 apple trees loaded, from bright red, all green, and some both. All different varieties. So many apple limbs
from trees broke and a whole tree fell over due to the weight of all the
apples. I guess the apple trees thrived in a wet spring and hot dry summer. I
have been giving apples to anyone and everyone. I have been going out in the
mornings picking up the newly fallen trees a few times a week from the big
tree behind the shop. The apples are large and red and very white on the
inside. They are sweet and perfect for baking. I have made apple crisp,
applesauce, apple butter, apple muffins, and bagged apple slices. I love to eat them and have at least one a day, so does Jake. Karen has
made tons of quart jars of applesauce too. I have passed the apples out to
neighbors, relatives, the mail carrier, the bus driver, friends, and ladies in
my bible study. One family we didn't know came and filled 10 buckets to take and press to make cider. I have been feeding them to the horses too. It has been part of their diet all fall. I am not making a
dent in the number fallen and still remaining on the trees. There are so many
and I just hate to see them wasted. It has been fun to see the people who feel
blessed to receive them and tell all about what they are baking with them.
Makes it all worth it.
