Today was
the first day of the 4-H horse show. In the past three years, Jayden doesn’t
usually ride until after 6PM and it goes until 10PM. Today the entire show was
over by 6. I was thankful for answered prayers in the nice weather. It was
overcast, breezy and a nice 80. We have never been fortunate to have this nice weather in the past. Early in the week they were forecasting 90’s
and a hot weekend. Jaynie was Jayden's biggest fan, she helped her with her horse any way she could and watched the whole day. Jayden's first class was walk trot. She went in confident on her big palomino. I thought Tex looked
good and they did a nice job. He carries his head tucked on his own and has a pretty nice trot. Today’s pleasure horses move so slow they remind
me of a horse that is lame trying to trot. They also have their head down so
low to the ground it looks so unnatural. In fact I thought she would place in
the top. She was 6 out of 7 and got a red ribbon. She was feeling sad and
discouraged holding back tears and dreading the rest of the day. We were thinking here we go again, another miserable fair. She has
a competitive show girl that has an amazing pleasure horse that is in all her
show classes and on game day she has Ashlee G who is running her two top barrel
horses. I gave Jayden a pep talk and explained that she can’t compete with
these horses, to just enjoy being here and be gracious, smile and accept
whatever place you are given. My parents and Mark got to the show just in time
to see the next classes. Due to the judge not taking a break, I didn’t have
much time to inform everyone what time she would ride. Next was western
pleasure and she did well placing 3rd. That was something to feel
good about and she had her smile back.
Alice, Karen, and Orrie and the boys got to the fair in
time to see the last class of the day, the most fun, costume. We thought of something cute and simple, an Indian. We had the perfect outfit and found
symbols for indian warrior paints for the horse. It was fun to paint Tex and he
let us do anything without moving. We did hand prints, circle around the eye,
arrowheads on his hoofs, and a few other designs. Each symbol represented
something, such as the eye circle meant he is alert. The boys each got to put a
hand print on the horse in red. Peepaw added his hand print in green. She got a
purple ribbon. Jayden looked so cute in her little indian outfit.
