School's Out!!

The very last day of school and possibly the very last day of public school for Jayden and Jacob. We planned a very special day. The kids all got out early 11:30. We planned a cousin day at Spring Lake. Everyone met at our place and we drove to Spring Lake, only a 15 minute drive. It was pretty windy, but it was nice and warm. We set our stuff up at the playground and picnic area. Karen went with and helped me out too. I was amazed at how quickly the kids went from activity to activity. It kind of felt like I was with a group of first graders. First the ran to the playground, then they found all my balls an started playing volleyball, then the were setting up the rodeo golf set, then the grabbed my kites and were trying to fly them, then they discoverd the opposite side of the road was flooded and they took of shoes and started running in it. This all took place in a matter of a half hour. It was crazy. I had hoped they would do each of those things for a long time. Once they were in the water, that was the end of it. Swim suits were on and they ran and splashed in the big rained out ponds, then they raced to the lake. The Lake! That wasn't even in the plan. I never dreamed they would go swimming. It just rained and the water was so cold. I didn't want them in the water, I had no life jackets. There was no stopping them. I keep one pair of swim trunks in the car and gave those to Jake. That meant Luke was in his undies. He was not worried about it a bit. He loved it! I told him not to go past his belly button and he did not. He would look down at his bellybutton and continually check to make sure. Love it. The big girls got into bikinis and laid on the beach. It was not sunny and hot, so they were not tanning, jsut being girls I guess. I was so glad Torrie and Libby both came. They graduated and this was kind of one last big cousin gathering before the head to college. I think they had fun. Jossie was the only cousin that could not make it due to softball. She is quite the athlete with all the sports she does. From the lake, we let everyone get an ice cream cone. The ice cream they sell is delicious!! We weren't really  thinking because it was time for supper and we grilled hot dogs, had chips and fruit. I guess we had our dessert first. After we ate, we went to the roller skating rink. I think that is the coolest part of Spring Lake, they have an old skating rink in a little building that kind of feels like your outside and it is right on the edge of the lake. That was fun for the kids. Jacob wanted the in line roller blades. He was determined they were so much easier, but the looked a lot harder and uncomfortable. He skated until we made him stop. Luke made one round with my help and wasn't liking it. We tightened his skates like 5 times and he still wasn't satisfied. We ended the evening with the kids running through the ponds and looking for frogs and snapping turtles. I think the kids all enjoyed the day and made a special cousin memory. Jaynie, Ryile, and Maggie spent the night too.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
