Getting the kids to bed, Jayden got on facebook briefly. She informed us she read about the Nemechek family just missing the devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma. Around 3:00 this afternoon a horrible tornado went through Moore Oklahoma. The twister was up to 2 miles wide and devoured the city. The devastation was horrific. There were so many children getting ready to go home for the school day. Amazingly in a town as large as 56,000 only 24 lives were taken.
While reading on facebook we discovered more news, two girls from Dayton had been abducted. My heart sank in disbelief. They gave the ages, one being 12 and the other 15. That meant one was in Jayden's grade and one a little older. My mind raced with thoughts of girls that live in the town of Dayton, Jayden's friends, kids we know. This was all happening as I was trying to get the kids to bed. Jayden and I talked and prayed while I held back tears. Facebook was hopping with information. The Dayton Leader is an online newspaper on facebook that started giving minute by minute information. We watched and read. There was to be a press release at 10:30, then 11:00. Nothing was televised. Word came out that the 12 year old Dezi, had managed to escape. Dezi is in Jayden's class, new to school this year, and played volleyball. She loved to talk to Luke. My thoughts went to what she went through managing to escape. Kathlynn was the girl still missing and although I do not know her, Jayden said she is super nice and has autism. Knowing she is autistic makes it extra scary for this poor girl and how she would react. Mark and I tried to think about sleeping. We lay in bed, prayed, and talked about what to do. Word was a search party was forming at Beckman's corner close where we heard the suspect was found and had hung himself. That was right across from our Dayton farm site. Mark decided to go and be of help in some way. He left at 11:30 and returned at 2:00. Numerous people came out to search, but were all sent home. Only the authorities were to search. They did not want volunteers to be in the way of their investigation. Nobody slept well, lots of prayers.
