I have been using the marble jar for the
kids as a reward system over the years. I used to give the kids a marble for chores and good behavior, and I would take one away for bad behavior. Once the jar filled, they got to pick a prize. I haven’t been to consistent and have
tried other things too. This year I have made more of an effort to stay on top
of it. On the days the kids are home, the
older two have a list. The list has chores, work, and activites like reading or
math. At the end of the day I tally up
the points and they get a marble for each thing. Once they fill their marble
jar, around 40 marbles, 15 for Luke, they get to pick a prize from the prize
box or can take $4 cash. It is their allowance money they get to spend. Luke
has a small jar with few chores to do and smaller prizes in his box, but it
motivates him to do things. There has also been less grumbling with the list. Jacob has learned how to fold wash cloths really nice and both kids get a day once in while to cook a meal. It has been fun to see the kids excited about
earning their marbles. The other day Jayden and Jake were fighting over who
would get the mail because the both wanted to earn their marble for it.
