Travels to Iowa

Jayden not only bumped her flight up an extra day, she also got a first class flight and did it all without paying anything, using frequent flyer points. It was a big day for Colt, his very first time traveling on an airplane. It was also a big day for Jayden flying alone with Colt! I was amazed she would even attempt to travel just the two of them.  Noah drove them to Dallas, a3 hour drive. They thought it might be easier than taking the flight to Abilene and spending extra time at the airport waiting and then getting on the second flight. Jayden allowed 2 hours at the airport and through security, then it was a 2.5hour flight, and an hour car drive here. Jayden timed everything and was fully prepared on her flight. She had Colt in his warp and he slept most of the flight. She said he did great all day. I picked them up and made a stop to grab a bite to eat. Colt got scared of the workers and cried, then as we sat down to eat, he soaked through his clothes and diaper. We didn't really have much chance to eat. Her life is always in baby care mode with little time for rest. We were all so glad to have her here and spend time with Colt.

Karen and Orrie finally got to meet their new great-grandson. They also came over for dinner the second evening home. John Jones was passing through, so I invited him to stay as well. He is always fun to talk to.  Friday morning we went to Ames for a brief shopping outing and lunch at Hickory Park. Later in the evening the Wahlert crew came for lunch as well as Ali and Titus for dinner. Hosting dinner at my home is not something I love, I can never relax with people in my house and I never feel fully prepared. This was both Ali and the Wahlert family's first time meeting Colt. He was a happy guy and got held by everyone.

Saturday we went to Karen and Orrie's for a family gathering. We planned a special day for all the relatives to come and meet Colt. The second cousins had not all been together yet and we planned a baby photo session followed by a big family lunch. Gathering all their Great grandchildren for one photo was absolute chaos. At one point we had  5 of the 7 crying. Colt and Eli sat and took it all in. Kitt and Lace scream cried from start to finish. Colt sat there while Kitt screamed next to him. I don't know how he stayed calm.  Everly stood holding hands with one of the twins taking her job very serious. The twins would take turns one would cry then the other and back and forth. Titus refused to stand, he was running and once we got him to stand he was mad and crying. The moms were all trying every trick in the book to get some smiles. Once the teddy bears were brought in, Colt got scared and then he was a crier. It was crazy. Our great photographer sat and photographed through it all. She did some serious magic in the end and photo shopped happy kids into a photo that is a treasured masterpiece!!

I asked Photographer Kelly to take some with my girls and I love the results! I will cherish these photos. I am a blessed grandma. (Even if I am not ready to be called a grandma) Others had some fun photos taken also.

Sunday morning Colt woke early and Jayden brought him in our room so she could sleep some more. She knows I like to have that morning time with Colt and it gives her the rare chance to get a little extra sleep. He just laid on the bed between Mark and I smiling and looking around. It wasn't long and he fell back to sleep for a catnap. He is a sweetheart. Grandpa Mark sure enjoyed his time holding and rocking Colt too. I also took my favorite baby in the bath tub photo.

The visits always go too fast. We love being together and can't wait for the next time.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
