Jayden July Visit

Jayden flew home to have some time with family July 21-27. Friday evening Jayden arrived at 7PM. She has been longing to come home and get out of the Texas triple digit heat. We took her to Olive Garden, per her request. We all decided it just isn't the same and has gone downhill over the years, bummer.

Saturday we were up and on the road early to Williams for Mawgee's baby shower for Jayden. Grandma had talked about doing something with all her friends after the wedding. When Jayden was expecting she decided a baby shower would be just the thing. I joked that Grandma was having a party with all her friends, and Jayden was invited. Grandma said, "well yes that is exactly right." She asked Carina to host it in her home and she had agreed. I know she was overwhelmed with the large guest list and the timing right before her county fair. She likes to be very prepared and have everything planned, house perfectly clean and spotless. It was all perfect of course. Grandma had a variety of friends from the community, neighborhood,  church, and card club. I didn't know the guest list, so each lady that walked up the sidewalk was a surprise. Some of them Jayden did not even know. There was a great turnout and it felt to me like a little ladies Williams reunion. I enjoyed seeing the ladies and visiting. The extra special guest was my cousin Laura who made the trek from MN. It was so nice to have her visit. She had stayed the night with my mom and helped her out preparing for the shower. It was a lovely shower and Jayden received so many nice things. She loved all the little baby books and cute clothes. Carina passed the wooden rocking horse on to Jayden to continue the tradition of passing it. It was given to Wade and I around 1979 from Auntie Alice. It has become a family heirloom that we will treasure and so will Jayden.

Sunday was church, lunch, horse riding, and ice cream. Mark, Jayden, and Luke did some hot heel roping. They rode Joker and Tex. Joker was full of energy which Jayden found out and I had to help lope him down. Later we drove into Boone for some good ice cream. We wanted to continue our tradition of getting Spring Lake ice cream, but they were closing before we could get there.

Monday morning Jayden went to spend some time with Grammer and Po. She had planned it out ahead of time that she wanted to sew and bake with Grandma. She had patterns for making burp rags and bibs. We all had lunch, Grammer's spaghetti. In the evening, Mark had a Gym meeting. We had an early supper and Jaynie joined us. From there the kids and I went to Fort Dodge where we met Mawgee, Ali, and Bridget for the movie Barbie. We thought it would be fun to see and the trailer made it look pretty funny. Myself, being a lover of Barbie dolls, thought I would really enjoy it. The movie was a lot of things, funny, quirky, happy, sad, some of it good, some of it dumb, and all the way around weird. I would not watch it again and was not impressed. They intertwined fascism, consumerism, feminism, patriarchy, and a little wokeness. They had to get it all in to make it modern. I did enjoy the clothing and Barbie world accessories and cute outfits that were very familiar. The Barbie and Ken characters were a perfect match. The boys laughed a lot, but overall thought it was a little funny and a little weird. Jaynie and Ali liked it. It was fun getting everyone that could together for the movie and then we went to get ice cream at Dairyette. Ali and Bridget had ice cream there before the movie and again right after. That was their supper.

Tuesday was a quiet day. Jayden spent some time with Karen and Orrie finishing her sewing projects. Then we watched some movies and had a quiet afternoon. In the evenings sometimes Jayden and I sit and talk together or read a book in bed.

Wednesday Jayden and I went to the Hamilton County fair to watch Alivia show her horses. We knew it was to be an extremely hot day hitting 95 with high humidity. There was a little grey cloud that went through that kept things overcast and the sun wasn't blasting hot, at least not until noon. Alivia did well in halter and a ranch pleasure class. She rode Jewel, a beautiful mare that is a show horse. Alivia had some trouble in her Western Pleasure class and decided to scratch the rest of her classes for the day. By noon the heat was coming on strong. We ate beef burgers with grandma and grandpa before heading home. We also saw the Teague's and in talking, Jayden came up with the idea and offered Joker to Maddie to ride in college rodeo this fall! She lost her barrel horse last fall and has been without since. I was surprised and impressed with Jayden's generosity.

July 25,26,27,28 the heat and humidity came on strong. We were in the 90's and one day the humidity was 100% and one day the dew point was in the 80% range. It feels so gross as soon as you walk outside. Jayden didn't think much of the dreadful heat here and she felt like she was on a break from her Texas heat. She has been living with triple digit heat for several weeks and pregnant. It is just an unbearable hot hot dry heat. Summers are hot and hard. Thursday I dropped Jayden off at the airport at 9Am for her flight back. We love our Jayden visits and miss her when she goes. She will be back in a month, so we can look forward to seeing her then!

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
