Girls, Wedding, Benefit Weekend

Over the weekend I got to have some girl time. On Friday my close childhood friends Paula and Jess met up with me in Kamrar. They chose Pickles as the spot to meet and eat. This was a hang out for Jess in the younger days. I have only been there maybe 3 times. We had a great time chatting and eating a good lunch. From there we all agreed it was a nice enough day to go to Brigg's Woods and take a walk. We had walked together there in 2020 during COVID as a chance to be together. It is so nice having these girls to talk about funny times, the past, people we all know, and of course motherhood advice. These are my gals. We also talked about our class reunion. We realized that if the three of us don't get something planned, nobody will. Our reunion is this year and no plans haven even been mentioned. I asked the girls for ideas. They liked the idea of football tailgating. However, they wanted to meet during the CY/Hawk game in Ames. After much time and talk, we agreed we needed a different plan. The CY/Hawk game is the biggest game of the year in Iowa, crazy busy parking, highways, attendance, and crazy rivalry fans. Eventually I put a message out to the class to get some feedback. Dan P threw out and idea and plans began at the lake home.

Saturday evening, I had a wedding. It was the wedding of my very good friend from church Carolyn's daughter. Tabby had invited people in her life that she was close to and family. When 2 families could not be there, Carolyn wanted to ask myself and Laura to come. Neither of us were on the guest list, but Carolyn wanted her close friends to be there. Laura and I both decided we would go together. I drove on a cold, rainy, windy day.  It was raining heavily, and we drove over an hour to the wedding barn. Laura and I had good talks and enjoyed each other's company. She gave me her history and testimony. Her and her husband were missionaries and spent much time in Thailand. The wedding was lovely, in a big wedding barn. What stuck out the most to me was the special words that Ken said to his daughter and new son at the end of the ceremony. It made me want to cry. The couple are very strong in their faith and have a Christ centered wedding, so awesome. Carolyn was so happy we made it to the wedding and was overcome by the fact that she had all her besties there for her happy day. She even had her bestie from California. Tabby's husband reminds me so much of her brother. He has similar height, build, and smile. The dance began and Laura and I left after watching the first dances. It was a lovely wedding and reception. Laura laughed and thought it was great that I brought us both warm fuzzy socks and blankets for the car ride home. We both kicked out of our dress shoes and slipped into our warm socks for the drive home. Dresses and dress shoes are no way to travel especially on a cold evening.

On Sunday, the Erritt family had a memorial barrel race for Mike Erritt. The event was to raise money for the family. They had auction items and I put together a basket. We also made a donation, and I got an auction item. I first met Mike as a horse project 4H leader and later knew him as a barrel racing rodeo dad. I attended the barrel race to watch and see people. It was held at the Elkhart indoor arena. They had a big crowd and turn out. I was able to give Payton a hug and told her we prayed a lot of r their family. Out of the 3 girls, she was the one I knew the most. I never really got to know the wife.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
