The G kids had the day off from school, so they came and spent the day with me. I planned out the day with things Easter related. I picked them up from Ali's work at 7:45 in the morning. Both kids jumped in the car excited with a bag of mini chocolate donuts. I looked in horror and Ali happily explained that was breakfast and she got two bags for the price of one. They are the gross super unhealthy pre packaged Little Debbie style. I calmly asked the kids if I could get them a better breakfast choice and I took them through the McDonalds drive thru and got them breakfast burritos. Still not ideal, but at least it wasn't all sugar. Back at the house we started in on egg decorating. Without Jayden here this Easter, I knew there would be no other egg decorating going on. When she is back, the boys will reminisce and do fun things they did as kids, including egg decorating. Bridget and Andrew had fun and colored lots of my farm eggs. I found that if Andrew wasn't constantly entertained, he was on his phone either playing video games or watching Zombieland. As grandparent, I am torn. Do I make him put his phone up and not allow these things or will he feel that I am too controlling and not want to come back? He does this all day everyday when he is not here, so he wouldn't even understand why he shouldn't be able to. I did my best to ignore it and keep them busy. I had them sit at the table as I read and went through the Resurrection Eggs. I shared the story of Jesus going through the 12 symbols and having them guess what was inside each egg. I think they enjoyed it and I could tell this was new to them. I don't think there is much about Jesus life and resurrection in their Easters. I hope to share with them in a way that is memorable and impactful. We also went outside, baked a jello cake and then lunch. I thought I would try to find something for them to watch for the hour. I had a fun show on and Andrew would look up from his phone only when there was a funny or exciting part, the rest of the time he was in his phone zone. Jake and Mark came home for lunch, each saying hi at least 3 times before the kids would look up from their phones. After lunch I took the kids out to ride horses. Bridget left her phone in the house, which I appreciated. It was great, I saddled Tex and Roany so we could ride together. I rode Tex and they took turns on Roany. I think they enjoyed riding.
