ISU Football

I went to an Iowa State football game. My college friend/roommate Heidi had an extra ticket and I love an ISU game on a nice day. I just could not pass it up.  It had been a couple years since we saw each other, and had ran into each other recently at a home ISU game. The day started rather chilly at 40 degrees. It warmed up to a sunny 68 and beautiful. Heidi, her daughter, and an exchange student from Italy, and I walked to the game through campus. It was lovely walking through the colorful fall trees along central campus. I have always thought the ISU campus is the most beautiful. The architect of many of the buildings are spectacular, the fall colors, and huge open area was a sight. Heidi knew much of the history as she had given many campus tours. Heidi and I even got a photo in front of Beardshear Hall. I wish our girls could have gone to ISU together, I am sure they would have made good friends! Heidi and her husband purchased a nice sized home in Ames where Heidi and 3 other ro

Shopping Isn't Fun

I used to look forward to a little time at the mall shopping. It was kind of a happy place. My last outing to the mall I had to get a couple new bras. I dread going into the VS store for many reasons, but it is the only place that has bras I can comfortably wear.  I've tried buying online, but I have to see and feel and try on, so I made my annual stop. Reason one why I dislike the store is the array of raunchy inappropriate teeny things on the mannequins. I have no good words to describe what they are. They don't cover the areas that you would think you would want to cover. Now they cover all the area except for that area. Seeing mannequins wearing them is gross and now we have them on super sized heavyweight mannequins. Ugh. The second thing I dread about the store, seeing young hormonal high school boys walking hand in hand with their girlfriends helping them pick out panties and such. Gross. To make it even more horrifying, I saw a couple pink and purple hair rainbow gals

Scholarhsip

Last Dollar Scholar is a program, as the name implies, intended to cover any remaining gap between federal and state grants/scholarships and tuition and qualified fees. The Last-Dollar Scholarship is available to: Students who recently completed an Iowa high school diploma, a homeschool program. Eligible Schools Eligible institutions are Iowa community colleges or accredited private colleges in Iowa that offer qualified programs of study. Guess who qualified? In addition to that, Jake got two sets of tools. One set he had to purchase for the program. Although his tools were 50% off, it was still a big amount. The second set was given to him. While sitting in church one Sunday Jake stuck up a conversation with the couple next to him, who he later discovered were the pastor's parents. Each Sunday the would talk to Jake about his plans and Mr. V kept talking about all these tools he had from his father. He had no use for all the tools and wanted to pass them on. He told Jake he could

Godspeed

In the summer of 2020, we donated our horse named Traveler to Godspeed equine. We had owned Traveler for about 8 year. He is a beautiful roan horse that looked so much like my barrel horse Joe. Mark roped on him and did some ranch rodeos. I used him for serpentine one year and used him for a lesson horse at a trot.  He had some soundness issues over the past few years, partly farrier caused and we decided it would be a good time for him to go where he would be used, but not hard. I knew that Godspeed was a place where kids worked with horses and the basics of barrel racing. I knew Traveler would be perfect. He is fantastic with ground manners and is great at slower speeds of barrel racing. We had more horses than were getting ridden at the time and Mark and I agreed to make the call. Kelly and Al came and talked to us, watched me ride him, and eventually picked him up in the middle of Covid. I remember how great it was to have another family come to the house, talk to us, shake hands,

Harvest

9/28/22 was the first day of harvest for 2022 starting with soybeans. It was perfect weather, sunny and 70's for a whole week. Beans are slow and beans dont require as much help. During the day, Tony ran the grain cart, Mick or Mike ran the combine and Mark ran the semi. In the evenings, starting around 4 to 5 PM, Mark hauls the semi, Luke runs the grain cart, and one other drives the combine. This was Luke's first year running the grain cart and he took to it with ease. The mama bear in me worried he would be working too often and too many hours. It has been manageable so far with the guys quitting by 8 on weeknights. The beans are doing will with the highest averaging yield being 80 bu/ acre. Harvest has been going strong, We finished beans in less than 2 weeks and have been combining corn. Over the weekend Jake drove the semi hauling corn to the bins for the first time. In 2 days, he ran it 20 hours. Luke has also started running the grain cart. It is such a monster big tr

Habits of Grace

I am in a bible study called, "Habits of Grace."  Mathias writes, "The Christian life from start to finish is utterly dependent on God." It is about how we as Christians can grow in grace and knowledge. How do we do that? God is the word and to hear his voice is to read his word.  Matthias writes," God's word informs our minds, inspires our hearts, and instructs our lives." We have to slow down and take our time letting it soak in. Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. First we read scripture, then we are to meditate on it. Meditation is the link between bible reading and prayer. This is something I don't spend a lot of time doing. My brain is always thinking of the next thing. I think we all have a little ADD in our lives and more so now than ever. With television shows, the internet, and

Watch for Modern Wolves

Rainbow colors are displayed throughout many stores promoting gay pride. The group has been given an entire month to "celebrate'.  Each year we see more and more pride on display. It makes me sad when just a few years ago everyone loved the rainbow, it represented God's promise. Little girls loved rainbows on their dresses and shoes. Now it has a whole new meaning, it has become a sign of modern times representing a lifestyle of sin. I am not sure why, when , or how people decided to label themselves. The LGBQT labels that people use to define who they are and pridefully want the world to see, know, and celebrate their label. It is a lifestyle of sin. Our current, culture accepted sin, pushed it into society, and celebrated to the point of brain washing. It make me sick to see it in children's shows, cartoons, and story books. The far left liberals use this propaganda to shape people's minds. With the use of social media, it can be instilled in so many and the you

I Made a Meme

I made my first meme. I dint know what a meme was a year ago. The definition of a mem is - a humorous image, video, piece of text that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users. I didn't make the meme to make a meme, I wanted to state my opinion in a funny yet impactful way. I truly think the girls cocktail dresses have gotten way out of control. Little girls all the way from JH through HS are wearing dresses that barely cover. It is obscene and absurd. One day I was thinking about how they reminded me of the oldies bathing suits. I googled the old bathing suits and discovered they resembled the 1940's bathing suits. I found a fun photo and added the wording, " Who knew the 1940's bathing suit would be today's homecoming dress?!" I didn't know if I would offend people, but thought it was funny. The responses I got were all laughter and in complete agreement. It has been shared many times and it will be fun to see how many shares it will get. I watche
