New Routine

Life has changed significantly for me with all three kids out of the house. It is a little taste of what it will be like in four years as an empty nester. This is my first year in 8 years not having kids in the house. From having little ones home to homeschool, I have always been with my kids everyday. Luke has started high school and that has left my house empty for the day. Jake is in Ankeny at college and of course Jayden is on her own living way too far away. After 3 weeks, I am still trying to find my routine. I knew when Luke graduated I planned to look for some type of emplyment or volunteer work. I just was'nt planning to have to start that role so quickly. Luke going to public school was decided in July. I was thinking of things that I might like to pursue. I applied at a gym in Ames to help coach gymnastics and tumbling. I went for an interview only to learn that my pay would be $10/hr. and they could only offer me 2 hours at a time with my 1-1/2 drive over there. Also, I would be taching mostly toddlers up to 8 year olds. They are high energy hard to manage ages. Um...no thank you.  I took my sub teaching authorization classes and got my certification. Now I just need to be brave and try it. I just don't know how to start. I feel like I should shadow a teacher for a couple days first.  I will either love it or hate it, but it seems the most conveinet for flexibility and location. Mark wants me working in the office in the mornings, so I have committed to MWF helping his secretary. He is so excited to have me at the shop and thinks it is great. It is fine, I am glad to help and be in the know, it's just not quite what I was looking for. I am keeping my options open in the hopes that a door is opened for something that I will love. I have been busy even though I have so much freedom. I started bible study on Thursday mornings, something I havent done since the kids were little. I am doing some vounteering at Overflow. I get together with freinds for lunch and chats more often. I feel like I spend a lot of time cleaning, doing laundry and cooking two meals a day.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
