Since returning back to Cornerstone church, I was ready to get more involved, join a connection group, and sign up to serve. I signed Luke and I up to help in child care once a month, signed our family up to serve coffee once a month and I also signed up to help provide a basket once every three months for apartments that are housing homeless families. While I was helping my first day in K/1st grade classroom, I met a college student named Rie. She is from Japan and has been in Iowa working on her masters. I asked if she had visited a farm while she was back in Iowa nd she said no and that she really hoped to. I invited her to visit our farm and watch harvest happening. She got very excited. I then told her we have horses too and she about jumped out of her chair, she was super excited! We exchanged numbers and a few days later she and a couple friends came to visit our farm. I knew that our harvest was in the final days, so we had to make quick plans. In fact when they arrived we only had 4 rounds left and about a half hour of daylight. I had the meals packed for all the guys and the visitors and I shuttled them straight to the field. They were so excited with so many questions. Joey has been at ISU for several years and speaks perfect English, he is from Indonesia. He smiles and is very kind. He is in agriculture, so he was soaking in everything. He said he had never been in a combine yet. He rode in the combine and in the grain cart asking lots of questions. The other friend had a hard name and was harder to understand, she was from Turkey. I really enjoyed talking with the, and driving them to the field and then to the shop. We did not go in the shop, but they really enjoyed watching the semi's dump the grain and Mark explained the grain leg system. They were taking videos and saoking it all in. It was super cold and crazy windy. They didnt mind and would stand out taking videos and pictures while the wind was blwoing and the corn bees wings blwoing in their face. Luke was along explaingin a lot too. I think everyone enjoyed the visit and we agreed to ride horses soon. On October 27, we finished the last of the corn, wrapping up our 2021 harvest!!
11/7/21 Rie and Joey both came out to the house to ride horses. Rie had never ridden a horse and was very excited. Once on the horse, I am not sure quite what she thought. I led her and made two circles and she was ready to be done. They are both so kind and I enjoy talking to them.
