She/He

In recent years, more people are claiming an identity name, Trans-gender. I had to look it up in a dictionary. I still don't understand all the letters and the terms and the 52+ genders. We are living in some very strange times indeed. These people don't want to be referred to as he or she, but rather they, them and it. They will actually point out what "pronoun" they would like to be referred to. Sometimes you can't tell the gender, either the person is a boy wanting to be a girl or vice versa.  Over the past year, our pharmacist has been "changing." We pick up our prescriptions monthly and thought she was just a woman that was a little masculine. She was heavy set with short hair. In time, her voice grew deeper and her hair shorter. There was no make-up but glasses and dark shoes. She had a name that could conveniently go either way. Recently the voice became real deep. Then one day I filled my prescription, I noticed she had facial hair, not just a li

Dufur Wedding

The Dufur wedding weekend took place near Kirksville Missouri. We were all excited that Jayden and Noah would be driving up for the wedding too. I reserved two hotel rooms, one for the 3 boys and one for Jay, Mark and I. We were all missing Jayden, even though I just saw her, I was glad to soak in more time. While they were making the 7 1/2 hour drive, the rest of our family met in Bloomfield with the Anderlik's, Bob & Dorothy, Boyd & Jeanie, and Karen & Orrie. We were celebrating Karen's birthday and supporting Kyle and Abby with their home raised beef served right at the restaurant. I am not sure who was most proud, Orrie, Melinda, or Abby & Kyle. It was a big deal for them. We met up with Jayden and Noah around 10PM at the hotel. Noah was pretty quiet. We visited a couple minutes before calling it a night.     Saturday Cousin Suzy invited us to her new home for lunch. Her kids, parents, and families, along with the Ferrari's were there also. Her house is

Gun

Luke came up with the idea of making a gun rack using horse shoes and barn wood. He is so clever and talented. When he puts his mind to something, he can do big things. HIs run rack turned out really neat. He will enter it as a project for the fair and has plans to make more for gifting or selling.  Luke took Mark and picked out his new 22. He has been asking for one ever since Christmas. He got a 12 gauge shotgun for Christmas, but was determined he needed a 22 as well. I understand they are very different, I just didnt think he needed both so soon. He had the money and bought it. It is a really nice looking gun.

Quinceanera

Noah's family runs a banquet hall on certain weekends. She was asked to help at the upcoming quinceanera celebration. His family caters and serves during the party. Jayden did not know what to expect and learned a lot about the traditional party. From the internet... In many countries in Latin America, it is customary to celebrate a girl's fifteenth birthday party in a very lavish manner. This celebration traditionally marks a girl's coming of age and afterwards she is considered a mature person who is ready to assume family and social responsibilities. It is somewhat equivalent to a  debutante ball , or a coming-out party though these tend to be associated exclusively with the upper class whereas a quinceañera may be celebrated by people of all social strata. In the United States it has traditionally been the sixteenth birthday which is celebrated most extravagantly as the "Sweet Sixteen", however the custom of the quinceañera is gaining traction in the United S

1 year after Shut Down/ Governor SD

Webpage info... March 8  ORLANDO, Fla. – South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican who notably never shut down her state's economy or aspects of her citizens' social lives, ripped New York Gov. Cuomo as an ironic media darling and Dr. Anthony Fauci as being chronically proven wrong in his prescriptions and predictions -- during Saturday's final speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Noem recalled being routinely lambasted by the press and some Democrats as "ill-informed, reckless and even a 'denier'. "Some even claimed that South Dakota is 'as bad as it gets anywhere in the world' when it comes to COVID-19—that is a lie," she said. "The media did all of this while simultaneously praising governors who issued lockdowns, mandated masks, and shut down businesses—applauding them as having taken the "'right' steps to mitigate the spread of the virus." Noem then recalled a November 2020 appearance on ABC New

Texas Ranch Visit

Spring break was a surprise to Jayden, she didn't even know her college was taking off until the Friday before. Many colleges started the semester late and decided because of the pandemic to skip Spring break. There wasn't a practical way for her to come home with her horses. Since she couldn't come home, Jayden asked me to come out and see her, and I would get to meet Noah's family. I thought it sounded like a good plan, so I moved fast and booked tickets. Airline flights can go up by the day and the hour. Mark was encouraging me to go even though I would be gone over our anniversary. That was tough for both of us, but we celebrated with dinner out before I left. I flew out Friday March 12th from Fort Dodge on a 50 passenger flight to Chicago and then on to Dallas.  Flying out of Fort Dodge was a new experience and went well; free parking right out the door, no lines or waiting, no crowd, and a small plane.  I arrived in Dallas and the plan was for Jayden to meet by 5

Mike's Retirement

We honored Mike for his years of work and dedication to our farm. He is a man of respect, perseverance, and integrity. He always showed up to work extra early at the crack of dawn and put in the extra time and effort, just because that's the kind of guy he is. He worked hard and could always be counted on. His specialty was agronomy and crop management. He was the kind of guy you wanted your kids to be around and have an influence on. He didn't have a temper, smoke, drink, or chew or say a bad word. He is a God fearing man with a kind nature. Today we celebrated his years with us at The Second Street Emporium in Webster City. We invited his entire family, all our employees and families, and a few friends, including the Buhr's. It is through Mike that we met the Buhr family. Dan gave a nice prayer  and commended Mike for the kind of guy he is quoting a scripture verse of Mike, "Iron Sharpens Iron". Mark talked of Mike and his appreciation. We then had a nice meal,

Birthday

Earlier in the week, Mark took me to Des Moines. He had an appointment, so we took the afternoon and made it a birthday outing. Mark dropped me at the mall and told me to pick something out. I ended up getting a dressy pant and shirt outfit, shoes and all. I always have a hard time shopping and finding clothes I like. Then we went to the Cheesecake factory for dinner and dessert. I picked the Snickers cheesecake for dessert, it was delicious.     On my birthday, Mark surprised me with flowers and a nice card, Jake got me a Pioneer Woman napkin holder (mine recently broke), and Luke got me a Yeti mug. Karen invited me over for lunch where we had steaks and a delicious meal. I had an angel food cake, complete with candles. Today I turned 46. Libby joined us for lunch, so I got lots of baby cuddles with Everly Joy. She is a sweetheart, 6 weeks and around 9lbs. She still seems so tiny. Mark and I took a nice walk with the dogs. It was sunny and got up to 49 degrees.

Luke

Luke is growing up and a teenager now. He is really maturing and looking older, yet thankfully he still has the silly kid inside.  The blue dually has been a favorite truck of Luke's. He hopes someday to have it as his daily driver. He already knows how to drive it, manual shifting and all. It gets used on the farm, mostly for hauling fuel tanks and trailers to fields. The boys appreciate and value the Dodge, they know that was the truck  Mark had when we were first dating. We can never get rid of it.

Wess

Jayden decided to sell Wess.  It didn't take her long to list and sell Wess. After he was sold, I think it surprised Jayden how much she liked that horse and had a really hard time saying goodbye. He was her rope horse with all the buttons to be quick and snappy. He could do speedy rollbacks and launch out of the roping box. He had no problem with fast cattle. She also did some barrel racing and ran in a college rodeo with him. He made a great run in Fort Scott. He was a little unpredictable and could buck hard! She liked having two horses, a horse to keep her busy and another horse to have for a riding buddy, usually Noah or her roommate. I thought maybe she could take my palomino Weenie for a couple months to get him some hauling and riding time. He is young and can be skittish and also gets a little humpy. So, I put him on a trailer and hauled him west. We had an acquaintance lined up to haul him. I wasn't too happy with the arrangement and worried about his well being. Wh
