Let The New Year Begin 2021

2020 is a year that will go in the history books. What started as 2 weeks of shelter in place is still going. Masks mandated, political uproar, racial tensions at a high, trans affirming being pushed harder, economic instability, depression, abuse, trafficking, mental illness's are all on the rise. It was not a year to look back on with fondness. It will be a year we will look back on in history as one not to repeat. I wonder what we will call the year 2020. I am sure it will go down in history as the most memorable yet. There will be many names and many stories. The year of the virus, the year the world turned upside down ,the year of fear, isolation, quarantine. The year people did whatever they were told to do like puppets or sheep following the herd. It has been such a crazy year and I am ready to put it in the past . I hope and pray that 2021 will be a year of positive changes. Our country needs a revival, it needs to look up, seek God, ask him for wisdom, and make the positive changes.

We fared well and are so grateful. We still managed to travel quite a bit, had a good harvest, sold more Salford's than average. We got some nice dividends from biodiesel, and held on to corn and beans along with options to watch the prices as they started climbing and are still climbing. I'm thankful our kids homeschool and are in a small community where the Coronavirus restrictions weren't out of control. I am thankful for a sensible Governor who made living in Iowa bearable. Looking outward, some states set travel restrictions, had mask mandates from the start, shut down business's, and restricted gatherings from the beginning and still continue with a tight grip. People suffered from virus illness, hospitalization, and for some even death. The percentage of deaths as a whole was very miniscule. The damage to small business owners catastrophic. The mental damage to people and what we are doing to the youth that have to grow up in this will be devastating. The racial tension and protests that took place have set us back as a country. More damage was done to communities and business's that will never be the same. Politics turned into chosen sides forming enemies and hatred. How did our country get so divided and hateful? We are one nation under God. Now we are a broken nation holding on to what we can. We battle over who should lead this country and how. One is based on facts and truth, yet the leader is arrogant and crude. The other is based on lies and manipulation, yet smooth talking and misleading. We need good honest leadership, but that can't be found in human form. We are all sinners, liars, deceivers. If we don't follow God's truths, we are going to self destruct this county.  We serve a God of hope and God who is in control and knows what we need. He saw that we were comfortable, that we were living for ourselves and didn't need him. We are people that worship and serve, but were not serving God, but man, money, things, and ourselves. We needed a wake up and a shake up. He got our attention, now let's see what people will do. I am hopeful that 2021 can be better and hope and pray for healing of our country and our world. I pray for a revival and more will know, love and serve Jesus. For he is the way the truth and the life. Let the New Year begin!

After New Year's Jayden and Noah both flew back to Iowa, stayed for a few short days, then hauled back to Alva to start the spring semester of college. It was hard to see them go, but I was glad that Jayden has someone special in her life. They are happy together and cute to see their relationship grow. It is also very comforting when she is hauling 9 hours with her big trailer and horse on winter roads to have someone with her. I like Noah, he is polite, funny, and kind. They are happy together and very compatible. I pray for both of them daily and their relationship. I also pray that they will seek God for direction and wisdom. It will be interesting to see what their future holds. I will miss them back in Oklahoma!

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
