College Break

Jayden arrived home from her first semester on December 13 and had break until January 13! Alex and Jayden left Friday after finals at 11:30 and made good time getting home around 9:30. Jayden told me they ate candy for lunch and had no supper. When they travel,  they don't stop except for fuel. I am glad she looks forward to coming home. Her first semester was a whirlwind of activity. She is happy in Alva, so that makes me happy. She finished her finals and passed her classes with flying colors and very little effort. Jayden doesn't sound like she puts a lot of effort into her classes because they are not hard and she is not challenged. She tells me she isn't learning much. That isn't really what you want to hear when you are spending all kinds of money to put her through college. WE really wish she would challenge herself and take the harder classes, choose the harder career, and make the most out of her education. Mark and I only say this because we know she is capable. One of our friends told us that with Jayden's ACT scores she really needs to strive to take the hard courses, go into genetics, engineering, medical, something she can really use her knowledge to do big things, not just glide through easily. Right now she is definitely gliding.
Jayden puts a ton of time and energy into her horses. She loves being part of the rodeo team and rides all the time. She has Astro up for sale and had been horse shopping. I thought she should sell him before looking, but that was just mom's opinion. It didnt take long and she found a mare that has the same coloring as Ace. She bought her and had her hauled home into the cold Iowa frigid winter. She had long slick hair coming from Oklahoma City where she has probably never felt much cold. She came back to temps in the teens.
Jayden met a boy mid way through the semester with the nickname, Shark. He is a football player from midland Texas. He was interested in her, but she was so busy they could rarely make plans and she didn't really know if she liked him. She was busy hauling horses to barrel races, vets, and riding. Sometime in November, she started talking to him again and they started seeing each other. Jayden still calls it " talking". I don't know if either one has officially claimed to use the word, boyfriend, or girlfriend. It has been so funny to hear Jayden talk about him. This is her first time liking a guy and dating. He has made her a steak dinner at his place and invites her to do things with him. He rode along when she took her horse Wes to the vet for injections. He lived in Midland Texas, has a scholarship to play football, lives in a house 30 miles from the college, owns and drives some big amazing trucks,  comes from a Latino family that has a very large exotic animal hunting ranch. That is all I know about him. I do a lot of praying over her and relationships.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
