Swim Week 2/ 4H Conference

Sunday evening we went to Ames to celebrate my Dads birthday at Hickory Park. After we ate, Jayden had a date. She was embarrassed and didn't want to make a big deal out of us meeting him. It was the first date so we laid off. We did however watch her get into his big jacked up truck with the name of his farm on the back window. She later told me it was ok and he isn't someone she is really interested in.
Wednesday-
Jayden and Luke went to Jewell for ice cream for Peepaw's birthday.
In the evening Jayden and I rode horses with Luke. We tried to get him to lope Tex. Our pressuring him created tears and made for a frustrated boy. I know you can't pressure him, its got to be in his own time. He has always been that way. We have been encouraging him trying to let him do it on his own. We are counting down to the county fair and it is so important that he be ready and confident.

Thursday was booked from the time we got up until we went to bed. Luke and I started out by going to the Neeble's to visit and have Luke and Stuart play guitar together. It was the last swim lesson at Liz's and the kids had to swim a lot of laps. Front stroke, back stroke, elementary back crawl, butterfly, side stroke, front crawl, and then tread water for 3 minutes. It was tough and they were so out of breath. Wade dropped Alivia off at lessons and she went with us from there. We ate lunch, then went to the Ames swimming pool aquatic center. Jayden met us there and we spent most of our time in inner tubes floating the lazy river. I saw many other girls there and couldn't help but think how cool it was and how lucky I was to have a daughter that wanted to hang out at the pool with her mom. We talked and laughed as we floated side by side. Alivia and Luke had a great time too. I then took Luke to his guitar lesson where Grandma met us to get Alivia and take her home. My mom is a trooper, always running kids here and there and babysitting the little ones. She has been babysitting Levi since he was born every Tuesday while Carina milks, and many many other times.
Next I picked Jake up at 4 from his 4H conference and he talked all the way home about it. Any trip that he is on, I get one word comments in a text, such as "good, fun, or ok". He doesn't text any info. but once I get him he talks non-stop. He had a pretty good time, but didn't care for the beef round-up. He told me he wanted to learn more about cattle and thought it sounded interesting. He told me about the beef speaker and his name was Marshall. Jake was not impressed and described him as arrogant and put down farmers. As soon as he said the name, I knew exactly who he was talking about. Marshall was there when I was in college and he was not a fan of the rodeo program.  Jake spent two nights on the ISU campus. Just like any other activity, he went into it without knowing anyone and staying with a random roommate. The dorm rooms had a big fan but no A/C. Jake also got hot, really hot. He wasn't drinking enough water and was out in the sun. It caught up with him later with a mega migraine. He had the terrible headache during the dance and he didn't have a good time. We then had a talk about dehydration.  He enjoyed the stay and getting to know people. He saw his youth group friend Hudson and  also a neighbor boy. His time at conference was full of ups and downs. I like to have the kids take advantage of  opportunities as they are available to them with plenty of life lessons along the way as well.
At home, I crawled on my bed and set a timer for 20 minutes, something I never do. I probably take 3 naps a year. Those 20 minutes were gone in an instant and I had to keep going. I needed that refresher and it worked. I packed a sack lunch for the evening for Luke and I  loaded Tex in the trailer and headed to the 4H horse project meeting. It went great, Luke loped on Tex for the first time. We had been trying for awhile and tonight he did numerous times. I was so happy for him! What a day!

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
