We have gotten rain, rain, and more rain. This rain is at a bad time of the year. The farmers have been anxious to get in the field. They have just started rolling and then rain. It has been a week since Mark has been in the field. It is October 12th and he has gotten half his beans out and hasnt started on corn. There are some areas in Iowa that haven't been dry enough to even gotten in yet. As the days go by and it gets later, they get more nervous. Mark knows there is nothing he can do about it and has used his time and energy elsewhere. He went to work on the arena putting in cattle alley and chute for roping. With Tony's help, he welded posts and fence and made a nice heavy duty roping cattle return. The arena is all set up for roping with live cattle now.
During the week, we took a day with the boys to visit the Historical Center in Des Moines.
On Saturday my college roommate Teng V. was in town. Our family, minus Jayden, met her for brunch at the Cafe in Ames. Jayden has gotten to meet Teng when we were in Vegas, but Mark and the boys had never met her. I think they weren't sure what to think at first, but soon found she is super sweet and friendly Teng hasnt changed a bit, she doesnt look a day older, she still has her bubbly outgoing personality, and is forever tiny and always is shocked at how tall I am. I am actually hunching down in the photo of the two of us. It was so fun to reconnect and share storeis and catch up. Her daughter is a freshmen in Arizona.
Sunday the 7th Mark went with Jayden to a barrel race in Denison. She ran Astro and Joker. Both horses ran so good for her and she brought home some checks. She boosted her confidence in her horses and managed to bang up her knee pretty bad with a bumped barrel.
This weekend the ISU rodeo team traveled to North Dakota. We strongly advised Jayden not go this time and after much thought, she made that decision. Fargo is a long haul and any traveling with the team seems to be a crazy and unorganized mess. Turns out Fargo was under several inches of snow. The team went up on Thursday night and didn't have a hotel. The horses didn't have stalls and had to stand out in cold snow. They haven't even grown winter coats or been out in cold below 50. One of the team trucks got stuck. Sounded like they did a lot of partying. We are so thankful she chose not to go.She was glad too.
