Homeschool kids get to hold onto their childhood ways just a little longer. They dont have the peer pressure of other kids telling them what is cool and how to act. They get to be their own person, have an imagination, be creative, and be their own person. They get to be a kid and act like one. I love that my boys held on to their stuffed animals and slept with them for so long. Luke sleeps with his favorite stuffed animals every night. He has specail ones, Goofy has been the favorite from Disneyword he got at age 5. Maui the turtle he got from Hawaii and his latest new fluffy dog he got for Christmas. And there is that blanky that still is kinda nice to have at night too. I love that the kids enjoyed playing and having toys. Jayden had her Barbies and dolls and played with them up until she was 13 and changed her room and decided it was time to pack them away. Jake, at age 14 will still farm with his brother and set up all their farm toys. Like an architect or engineer, he has always liked to set up a farm, town or salvage yard inside or outside in the dirt. He can spend hours and sets up with lots of detail. He is not afraid to "play". Kids grow up way too fast. Little girls want to wear make-up, sexy clothes, and act like divas at such a young age. They have cell phones in elementary school and text their girlfriend/boyfreinds. I want kids to hold on to their childhood as long as they can. Growing up happens too fast as it is and then you wish you were a kid again.
One week in March, the boys had gotten really buggy about being on electronics, it caused some fights and was creating a lot of tension in the house. I told them to take a week off and find something else to do. It wasn't exactly nice outside, so they were forced to be creative in the house. Luke brought out the GEO tracks train setup. That hadn't been out in years, I really had to dig to get them as they had been packed away. The boys played for hours and it was set up all week. They also got out an army set and the air craft carrier. Another weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's, cousin Alivia taught Luke how to make his own slime. That gooey stuff is really a big trendy thing right now and Alivia makes all kinds of it. I enjoy seeing them play and not waste their time on the video games!
