Dinner Date...Mark and I went out with the Haverkamp's to dinner. It came about when Tori and I were speaking after a bible study. We talked about our husbands having so much in common and she decided to invite us out. Her husband has been a real estate investor and recently bought a ranch out in Wyoming. We had some very fun conversations about all kinds of things. Most interesting, they are avid hikers and have gone on hikes all over the world. Not just your average day trip, but hundreds of miles over several weeks or more. We talked about our kids and church. We talked about money, investing, teaching your kids to give in big ways, etc. It was a fun outing and we enjoyed getting to know new people.
Baby Shower...Jayden's youth group small group had a baby shower for her leader Audrey. She is expecting soon and was surprised with a little shower at Jayden's other leaders home. Jayden was not exaggerating when she told me the girls in her group, which are now down to 4 including Jadyen, are super quiet They are very shy and quiet and just kind of sit and take it all in. The moms were all part of the shower so there was plenty of conversation. It was a sweet time sharing mothering stories.
Bring on Spring, NOT snow!
The month of March had been a mess outside, we had it all; rain, wind, ice, and snow, but not much sunshine and warmth.
We were all looking forward to warm spring sunshine, the ground drying up, the horses shedding and getting in the field.
March 24, overnight we got snow and today it was blowing and snowed until mid afternoon. We rode horses in the arena and invited the cousins, Jaynie and Rylie to come. They rode horses and went 4 wheeling in the snow. Jake had been watching the forecast all winter from late November until now hoping for some good snowfall so he could have Rylie over to pull sleds behind 4 wheelers. All winter it was too bitterly cold whenever we got snow over a weekend. I didn't think it would happen this year. Currently we were trying out 4 wheelers and had two extra ones to play around with, so it was good timing. The boys did their thing while the girls wanted to do another painting project. That seems to be a favorite with Jaynie. This time Jayden did a rodeo billboard sign and Jaynie did spring mud boots and flowers.
During the final week of March, I made 5 trips to Ames, 5 days in a row. Mark and I are seriously considering getting a place in Boone, ok so maybe dreaming is a better word. Monday Jayden met with a gastrontologist, so she will have a local doctor overseeing her without having to go to Mayo all the time.
Coffee Table Collision...
Right before bed Tuesday night, Luke stumbled out of a chair and into the coffee table. He hit smack into the side of his face. It was near his jaw by his ear. He hit hard and was in a lot of pain for an hour before going to bed. I didnt know what to do. I checked his pupils and he seemed ok. He was hurting. I figured if he woke in the night I would take him in. He slept all night and was sore in the morning. He wouldn't open his mouth to talk or eat and I worried about a broken jaw. I took him to Ames and they did a CT scan on him. He had some swelling but nothing major and nothing broken. It was a bad area that could have been serious. We are so thankful it was only a minor injury.
Botanical Center.....Thursday we had a field trip with the local homeschool group to the Botanical center in Des Moines. We invited Grandma Karen since her birthday was the day before. We got a tour and learned some interesting facts. We explored and enjoyed all the pretty plants, flowers, and trees. We then went to see the Papa John's sculpture park, I was not impressed with. It is a city block in the middle of downtown Des Moines with a few scattered objects. Most of them do not make any sense, they are odd, and somehow called art. The only thing I liked were the horses made of sticks and wood. They actually took some thought and skill. After that, we went to Ames and had supper at Hickory Park for Grammer's birthday. Mark, Jayden, and Orrie met us. Mark had an appointment earlier in the day and got a shot in his shoulder. He expects he will need surgery before long. That makes me sad.
Movie...Friday Mark and I wanted to see a movie. There are a lot of christian movies out becasue of Easter. We went to eat then to the movie about The Apostle Paul. It was good, but a small fractionof his life and story. It was his time in Rome.
Barrel Race... Saturday I went with Jayden to a barrel race at Elkharrt. Luke went along too, he is Jayden's biggest fan when she competes. It was cold and so windy. It wasnt a very nice day to be out. The barrel race was indoor, but it was still plenty cold with long johns and all. Jayden ran Ace, had a smokin run, but knocked a barrel. She would have been second overall.
