I wanted to do something special for Jayden's 18th birthday. I had been planning a surprise for a few weeks. Today we pulled it off and she was surprised. Without knowing anything, Jayden made plans of her own. She had a couple friends over, luckily it all kind of blended together. There were also a few close calls when I nearly slipped. Erica and Brianna spent the night on Saturday and went to church with Jayden, Luke and I. Mark wanted to meet up with us later and Jake was coming from Grandmas. Jayden also requested we go to the Ames Cornerstone church. All she knew was we were having a birthday lunch at Hickory Park. As always I love going to church in Ames and miss it. The sermon was a good one with emphasis on marriage, some of it was very awkward sitting with 3 teens and a young Luke. We were a little late getting to Hickory Park, which worked out good because everyone was there and waiting. WE walked into a group of Jayden's friends. I had contacted all the girls through text and lined up the surprise. She had Riley and Rachael from church youth group, cousins Jaynie and Maggie, rodeo friends Erica, Brianna, and Morgan, and a 4H horse friend Sammy. We had invited one other horse/rodeo friend, Payton, and childhood school friend, Hannah who could not come. Jayden walked into Hickory Park and was shocked. All of them standing and waiting with big smiles. She hugged each one of her friends. All 9 of the girls squeezed into a big booth, ate delicious food and ice cream. The waitresses and waiters gathered around to sing Happy Birthday. Mark and I and the boys sat at our own table and Mark paid for all. Jake had gone shopping with his grandma and picked out special things just for Jayden. You could tell he put a lot of thought into it and found things that she really liked. He picked out a long necklace that had a metal feather and cross. He got her a Starbucks cup with a gift card and a Starbucks cake pop. There was even a little cactus. He even got her a big dog toy for her dog Tuff. It was pretty sweet when he presented her the gits in front of all the girls. He was so worried she wouldn't appreciate them, but she thanked him a bunch and put on the necklace. While the girls were chatting, Jaynie let the secret out about going painting, so on to the studio we went. Grandma W. wanted to be part of the day, so she decorated a table full of snacks and cupcakes. She also brought a lei with 18/$10 bills. The girls with aprons on sat and painted with an instructor giving step by step instruction. I asked to have a horse for their painting. I think the one they one they did was cute and simple, just not a lot of horse, more a face. The girls were very serious about painting and enjoyed it. It was such a super fun time and a special memory. Jayden has some neat girls in her life even, if she doesn't get to see them all that often, they are still freinds.
