On your birthday, you get to take the day off from homeschool and kind of do what you want. Jake took full advantage of that. He slept in, took a bath, played video games for hours, and watched tv. He was in a great mood and never complained all day. In the evening my parents, Alice, Wade, Carina, and the kids cmae down to visit and play. Later Karen and Orrie also came for dinner. We got to enjoy Levi and all his cutenss. He is crawling and pulling up. He kept sticking his lips out like a duck all evening and we would laugh and laugh. He is the only baby I have ever seen that doesn't stick everything in his mouth. He doesn't drool, inst real shy, and is a pretty happy guy. I fixed dinner, french dip sandwiches, fried potatoes, and some sides. It took awhile to butter and crisp all 13 buns when I could only do 3 at a time. It seemed everyone was waiting and I felt a little like a cafe cook. So glad I am not! We celebrated Jake, Jayden, and Orrie's birthdays with gifts and a Dairy Queen cake. The kids got some nice gifts, Jake got goggles for his helmet, outerwear vests, and from us he gets to pick out a bike. Luke picked out a card for Jake, a Chevy ornament, and a stuffed chicken. He was extra nice to Jake all day on his birthday.
The celebration continued on Friday, Mark took Rylie and Tyson with Jake to Fort Frenzy for games and roller skating. Three years in a row, I guess they like the place.
A couple days later I took Jake to get his permit. On his second try, he passed. He was super excited and I let him drive across Boone. That was a bit frightening for me, he is an expert on the gravel roads, but driving in town with stop lights and traffic is a whole new experience.
Later in the month I took Jake to pick out his new bike. Once he looked a few bikes over and tried them out, he picked the perfect one and there was no changing his mind. It is a big bike and one he will be able to grow into. We bought it from a downtown Ames bike shop and it is a quality Raleigh bike. He chose a bike without suspension, said that is what he wanted. It is sooo rough on gravel. He was very excited for his bike and looking forward to summer bike rides.
