Happy Birthday Luke

Luke turned 9 today. He is my happy go lucky kid, social and friendly. He is full of smiles and laughter, but look out when he gets mad. He is 100% farm boy, loving dirt, tractors, and trucks. He brings so much joy into our lives.
On Luke's birthday he got to sleep in, watch tv, and just hang out. With the grandparents out of town,  he didn’t have any place fun to go during the day.  He got to open his gifts from us. Luke has been all about his Nerf guns lately, so that was at the top of his wish list. He got a giant nerf gun that holds a lot of nerf bullets. Luke's best friend is a fanatic about guns and playing war and shooting. He also got a cool new pair of cowboy boots and a muscle car t shirt. Mawgee also made him a candy bar poster. They even have a steer skull on them. On the evening of his birthday, Luke had taekwondo, so I thought it would be fun to get a special cake to enjoy after his class. I tried to keep it a surprise, but he was with me when I got his cake. He didnt get to see it until after class when all the students sang and shared it. It was decorated with a taekwondo belt in the color blue, which is his current rank. It also said ATA on it. To make the night extra special, Aunt Alice came down and watched his taekwondo class and joined us after for dinner. This is the firsst time Alice has been in Iowa all winter so it was nice she could celebrate with us.  Mark and the kids met us at Buffalo Wild Wings, Luke's favorite, to eat.

Jan 20, Three days prior to his birthday, Luke celebrated with a friend party. Since both sets of Grandparents were gone, one in Hawaii, one in Alabama, Luke was happy to have a small friend party. He was so excited for Friday to finally get here. By 4:00 our family headed to Fort Dodge for the big party at Fort Frenzy in Fort Dodge. We picked up Alex L. and Tyson met us with his sister Morgan. Morgan and Jayden went and got Starbucks and a pedicure, all Morgans idea. Wade brought Alivia, and Rylie came late after wrestling practice. The kids ran wild, ate lots of pizza, played video games, laser tag, and lots of roller skating. It was a good time had by all. The roller skating was the biggest hit and even when our two hour time limit was up, they skated an extra 2 hours. The sweetest  was watching Luke hold Jaydens hand and skate round and round with her. Luke has an awesome sister.  As I always say, she is one of a kind. It was late by the time we got home with both Rylie and Alex spending the night. The boys ran around the basement having nerf gun wars. They had so much fun shooting and making barricades.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
