Baby Wahlert was born today and given the name, Levi. At noon today I got a phone call from Luke. He had spent the night with Grandma and Grandpa Wahlert and called to tell me that Wade and Carina just had their baby boy named Levi Wahlert. What!? I was shocked and wondering why on earth nobody called to inform me that she was in labor or going to the hospital. Mawgee thought it should be a surprise. I must say I was disappointed I didnt get to know sooner. Last night Carina headed to the hospital at 10PM and Luke and Mawgee stayed the night at their house. The baby was due on Luke's birthday the 23rd. His arriving early was a blessing for my parents who will leave on the 12th for Hawaii for an entire month. It was so nice they got to meet their new grand baby before leaving.
Luke is about to turn 9 and he is the baby in the family. It has been a long time since we have had babies in the family. I wanted our whole family to go see the new baby. A new life is a huge deal and reason to celebrate. I wouldn't want to miss the birth of any of our family. I knew Jake would not be able to see the baby as he has had a lingering cough. In fact this past week on top of his cough, he has had a nose that wont stop running. Jayden had been complaining of a sore throat and as the night went on, she said it felt worse by the minute. She was sure it was going to be strep. We decided maybe it would be best to have the kids seen by a doctor. Very seldom can you get into the doctor and after 5, however both kids were seen by the after hours clinic. Mark took the two kids to their appointment while I went to see the baby and get Luke. Mawgee and Peepaw with Luke and Alivia headed up to the room. Luke was super excited. Baby Levi was content and sleeping. He was 5lbs. 12 ounces, He was so precious and adorable. We took a ton of pictures and I got plenty of holding time. Luke was very excited to pass on the "baby of the family" title and he was excited to see his first newborn. He hasn't been around many babies. He enjoyed seeing little Levi. Apparently Alivia was not too happy all day. She was in a grouchy mood because she did not want a baby brother or sister. Once in the room, she hopped up next to her mom and held her baby brother and was all smiles. I even got in on changing baby Levi's diaper. Carina couldn't do so soon after delivery and Wade was happy to pass the job on.
Visiting brought back all the memories of each of the kids births. I can recall little details about each child and how different the experience was. Babies are such a miracle, such a beautiful gift from God.
While I was up enjoying the baby with Luke, Jayden and Jake were at the doctor with Mark. Jayden was so sad to miss the first visit of her new baby cousin. Jake had x-rays done and his lungs were showing signs of pneumonia setting in. He would need antibiotics and an inhaler. Jayden felt the worst and a strep test came back negative and her diagnosis was a virus. It was a long evening for the family and we all went for supper at Hickory Park before heading home.
It has been bitterly cold, today the high was 9, but the wind chill was -10. Yesterday the wind was even stronger. It has been miserable doing chores on these days. Mark, Jayden, and I rotate horse chores. I sure don't like days like this doing chores.
The next day i had a chiropractor appointment in Ames, so I thought I better go see the baby again. I sat and held baby Levi for an hour and visited with Carina and Wade. Those first few days of a newborn's life are just precious.
