8/28/15 Today we said goodbye to
Okoboji. It is always sad to leave a vacation and hard to go back to your
everyday crazy life. At the same time it always feels so good to be home. We
were all up by 8 packing and getting ready to head home. Only one problem, it
was raining. The boat was still on a lift and we needed to get it out and drive
it to the dock and load it. None of which is a smiple or fast process. In the
rain it would not be fun. We thought we would wait out the rain as the radar
looked like it would pass soon. We waited and waited. We got permission to stay
a little longer than check out. It just wouldn’t let up, so we went for an
early lunch. The rain was very light and it was obvious it was not going to
quit. Jake, Jayden, and Mark handled the boat, while Luke and I finished
packing. By 1:00 the hotel manager was at our room hurrying us out. By 2, we
had all our stuff loaded in the boat, to keep it dry, and were on the raod. We
were all a bit damp in the truck going home. We met my parents in Ft. Dodge so
Jacob could go home with them for a few days. As we drove home we got to see for ourselves all
the flooding that had happened overnight. While we were worrying about our little light
rain in Okoboji, we were unaware of what was happening at home. In the Dayton
area, it poured rain all night and all day. By the time it was all said and done, they got over 9 inches of rain. I saw these pictures on facebook of the
area and some of the worst, the Dayton arena. My heart sank in disbelief and
awe. In one week it is the labor Day rodeo. Had this happened next week there would not have been a rodeo and a whole lot of flooded campers. There was water everywhere. On the drive home we drove through two
sections of water over the road just west of Dayton. The Boxholm school was
standing in water. At home we got rain, but not near as much as Dayton. Friends
all over the area are fighting deep water in basements. I feel so bad for those
that have damage and lost important things in the flood.
