Turning 40

March 5 Today I am 40 years old. That is a hard number to swallow. Wow, I can’t believe I am 40. When I was a child that seemed so old to me. You always heard jokes about being over the hill and such. Now it is my turn. Ugh. At the age of 40 I have been married for 16 years on the 13th. I have a wonderful husband that loves the Lord as do I. I have 3 awesome kids. I am a busy mom that gets to experience my kids to the fullest. I get to be a stay at home farm mom and now a homeschool teacher. I love being with my children and I am enjoying teaching them what it is I want them to know and learn. I may not be the best teacher in the world, have the most patience, not be the most organized, but my kids are happy, loved, and learning.  I am a tired mom, I run the kids here and there to 4-H, taekwondo, youth group, AWANA, art, soccer, and horse events. I cook and run meals to the field and men to semis and tractors. It is a busy season of life and sometimes , most times I wish it would slow down. But then I think about how much I would miss out on if I wasn’t involved in all the kid stuff. There will be a time in our lives when we will look back on all of this and wish we were doing those things again. My body is achier and I feel that aging is going to be hard on the body. My back and collar bone bother me daily. I am fortunate to have good health otherwise. I had a few grays starting to show and when I colored my hair darker, they really came out. So, back to light highlights to hide the grays. I have a little more pudge at the belly and my jeans seem tighter in the thighs. I have decided to cut out pop completely and drink water as much as possible. I am cutting way back on my sugar and chocolate intake and eating more fruit. I am going to exercise and have started walking and doing sit ups. I am trying a new look by putting soft curls in my hair.
God has been good to me. I am blessed beyond measure and I plan to enjoy the years ahead as much as the years of past. It will be interesting to see what God has in store for the years to come.
On March 6, in celebrating my birthday, it happened to be that Luke had no school, so we all took the day off and had a family outing. We went to the Botanical garden in Des Moines. I had not been since a child in school on a field trip. It is neat and fun to see all the plants. A person could browse through the place rather quickly or you can take your time and see it all. I gave Jacob my camera and let him take pictures. He really enjoyed that very much and took a ton. He liked it so much he was asking to go back again. It was 74 degrees and 60 % humidity inside, so it was rather hot. Our next stop was the Jordan Creek mall. We had a delicious lunch at Cheesecake factory along with a giant sliver of cheesecake we all shared, it was chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, mmmm ! Jayden and I were on a mission to find some cute clothes. I have a terrible time finding anything I like and today was like any other shopping day, no luck. Jayden told me she doesn't want to shop with me any more, too depressing. I can’t blame her, but there just aren’t cute clothes these days. It was a gorgeous day out. We were home by 5, so Jayden and I took a ride outside with the horses on the road. They were feeling pretty good and spunky on the ride towards home. Every time Jayden rides her tail bone hurts from her snowboarding. At 7 we went to Karen and Orrie’s for dinner. Karen wanted to make dinner for my birthday and she went all out! Mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, fried chicken, orange rolls, and angel food cake with strawberries. It was delicious.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
