The iphone. The iphone 6 was just released and some people are crazy enough to stand in line for all hours in the night to be the first to get in the door to get one. Most people today own an iphone, or at least something very
similar. I do not own one yet, nor do I want one. I am sure at some point, I will own one. Soon enough that will be the only option. Jayden really would like her
own and Mark has an Android, which is basically the same thing, different
company. What is an iphone? A camera, computer, telephone, radio, answering
machine, all in the palm of your hand. It can do so many things, it is really
quite amazing. You can make phone calls, text, browse the internet, facebook,
check emails, watch tv, listen to the radio or any kind of music, take videos, watch tv or movies, read a book, take photos, and so many other things. Why would I not want
one? They are extremely addicting, most people can’t leave them alone. To have
one means, constant messages and emails that you would feel the need to check.
It would mean huge distractions all day long. When I am talking to someone who has a phone I feel like I am talking to myself. The hear me, they see me, but they are checking a text or browsing the internet while carrying on a conversation so they really aren't listening and it is just rude. I know because sometimes I do it to my own kids. They are talking to me while I am reading a text, then i look up and wonder what they just said to me. People rely on a phone so much, they can't be without it. Why would I want one? I actually
asked about the possibility of getting one just to use for the telephone and
camera. The camera on iphones are outstanding. They take better photos than my
photography DSLR camera, and the videos are sharp and impressive too. To have
my camera in my pocket everywhere I go would be nice. The phone companies
will not allow you to get an iphone
without the “data plan” meaning the internet. To have the basic package data
plan for an iphone runs a person $60 a month. Add that up in a year and that is
an awful lot of money. Another reason, it is just another thing the kids don't need access to. Our
family had dinner with another family. The family had their 4 kids along. From
the instant we sat down at the table their kids iphones came out and they were
playing games on them. They were even playing while they were eating and after
eating. My kids sat at the table, no ipones, and sat like the adults waiting
for food, carrying on conversations, and waiting patiently. I was in awe that
the parents would allow their kids to sit there in their own world in the presence of company their age and be completely
obliviuos to our kids. My rules for cell phones or electronics, absolutely
no usage at the dinner table at home or in a restaurant, or when there is
company and no usage on Sundays. I also limit how much , how often, and what
games they can play. I have them set to age appropriate too. Also I have
observed couples out on dates in restaurants across the table from one another
so into their phones, its like they aren't even together. People are like in their own little tiny world with a phone in their
hand. I recently attended a 4H project meeting with Jacob. There was a boy
around 14 years of age sitting with his dad. The club leader had this boy tell
the rest of the club members about his experience at the state shooting
competition. The entire time the kid spoke, he had an iphone in his hand
playing a game. The leader would ask him questions and he would look up to
answer, then continue playing his game in between questions. It was so rude, I
wanted to yank it out of his hand! And his own father was sitting next to him.
This is just another way we as parents are ruining our kids!
