Benefit

We had breakfast with Karen and Orrie, and Dorothy and Bob. Dorothy had returned from the Mayo clinic with a bad report. She has breast cancer. We visited for a long time about it. It sounds like she has some areas that will be removed and then Radiation. During breakfast, Jacob didn’t want to eat much. He wasn't complaining and it took awhile to get what was wrong out of him. Finally he told me his throat hurt. One look in his throat with his super enlarged tonsil, I knew it was strep. Within a couple hours,  I had him to the doctor, diagnosed, and got his antibiotics. Strep again, and Jayden just got over it. We got to the doctor early enough that Jake didn’t have to go through the pain and misery Jayden did. In fact, he got Mcdonald’s hamburger and fries for lunch. Mark stayed home with Jake while the rest of us went to the benefit for Emma Kiefer. Emma is the daughter of our elementary school secretary. She took such good care of Luke when he hit his head at school and got a giant goose egg. She is very kind and well liked. Her daughter, a senior was hit in a car accident with multiple injuries. She has head trauma and has been in an induced coma. Tonight was a benefit dinner and auction. Life flight landed and took off as part of the evening. We got there as it was leaving. It was freezing out, 10 degrees for the high of the day and at night it was 1. The benefit had an amazing turn out. So many people, tables full, huge lines and people wrapped around. Auction items went for high dollar amounts. I think it will really help the family out. Mrs. K came up and gave us a hug and told us how much she appreciated the Ronald McDonlad gifts. We stayed an hour and headed home.

Funny and sad. Dusty dog was put down and buried with the pony Dakota. Somewhere in the explanation, Jake heard,” We buried Dusty in North Dakota", instead of with Dakota. So, a few days later Luke’s Beta fish died. I was ok with flushing the dead fish, but he insisted that it needed to be buried by Dusty. Jake looked in confusion and said,”You’re going to let Luke bury his fish in North Dakota.” Too funny. Then, Jayden decided she would help Luke bury his fish on a very freezing cold day. He had his fish in a small cup of water. In walking out to the dirt site, the fish froze in the cup. Jayden thought she would just bury the whole cup, however the ground was so cold and hard she could not get a hole deep enough. In the process of getting the fish out, it broke in half due to it being a block of ice. Oh my, that made me laugh and someday Luke will laugh when he reads this.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
