Monday night we took the kids to their schools, saw
their classrooms, and met the teachers. I know that Jayden is a little nervous
for Jr. high, and I am too. She starts in the high school building in Burnside,
a 25 minute drive from home. It is so far away and I am so unfamiliar with the
school and teachers. I just don’t know anyone. At the Jr. high
building I had hoped to meet teachers and get excited about it with Jayden.
That didn’t happen. I feel like I am sending her off to this unknown school
with unfamiliar faces and strange kids. I am talking about 8 th graders with
dyed red hair, nose and tongue piercings, and I know because we passed them in
the hall at orientation. Usually we feel excited for the kids going back to school and Jayden
being in Jr. high I just felt uneasy and not sure this is the right thing. I am
praying a lot for her and all the kids school this year. Home-schooling has
been on my mind in the last year. It is something I have never wanted to do,
but I am keeping more of an open mind these days and talking with more and more
home-school families. I will continue my prayers and see what God has planned for
us.
The first day of school for Jake seemed to go well. He was in a good mood
and said his day went fast. Jayden said her day was long, classes are boring,
and teachers are mean. She also had her first volleyball practice in Boxholm.
Practice is every night until 5:15. I am not ready for this sports stuff. When I
was in Jr. high we had volleyball during the 8th hour of school.
Things have changed so much and there is so much focus on sports and practice
you would think they are training for the Olympics. The first night of practice
in the first 5 minutes an 8th grader, Emma dislocated her ankle. They
thought it was broken. Luke had his home visit from his new Pre-K teacher. She
is very sweet and she said it would be ok for Luke to attend 3 days a week
instead of the 5 days a week the other kids will go. I am so relieved to have
that option. I am not ready for Luke to be in school every day, he is little
and has the next 12 years to be in school full time. This is my last year to
enjoy him home and we like to do special things
like go to bible study and grocery shopping days. He can also spend more time in
the tractor this fall.
