We had a 24 hour camping trip to Webster City Briggs
Woods. Mark was in the field, so it was the kids and I. Wade had his camper set up for the week and offered us the chance to use it. We jumped at the
offer. In the morning the kids and I started gathering up all the things we
needed and loaded them into the truck. Jake had been at Grandparents and met us there. We had to pack clothes, food, sleeping gear, and bikes. There is
so much stuff involved in camping. I guess that is why Carina won't camp, she
says it is too much work. Wade plans on camping alone for the memorial day weekend surrounded by campers full of friends he knows.
With all our stuff loaded we barely had room for us in the truck. The camper is
so nice and roomy. Wade and Carina met us at the campground to show me some
things and had it all cooled off for us. The kids and I took walks, rode bikes, played at the beach and just did a lot of nothing. It didn’t take long
to hear “I’m bored, there’s nothing to do” from Jacob. I told him camping is
about doing a whole lot of nothing and finding things to do. Mark, my parents,
Alice, Wade, Carina, and Alivia came and grilled with us for dinner. It was a
nice evening, a little breezy and warm. We enjoyed visiting and good grilling. The nearest bathroom was a peaceful
little hike through the woods and across a couple bridges. Along the way,
Jayden pointed out “sticky weeds.” She learned of these fun weeds on her field
trip school outing. They are fun viney weeds that stick to your clothes. Luke
and Alivia had fun covering themselves in it. Luke also got his toe nails painted by Alivia.
Later after everyone went home, the kids and I took a little walk while it was getting dark. I called Mark and my parenst to let us know if there was any sign of any kind of thunderstorm. I so did not want a camper of crying terrified children. Back at the camper the radio had indicated weather, but it was moving north. We were all set. We ate a few smores over the grill, then tucked in for the night. Jayden had the couch, Luke ended up next to her on the floor, and Jake and I shared the bed. It was after 11 when everyone was sleeping. The next morning we went on a bike ride. Jake was super grouchy and I decided it was best to pack up and head it home. It was a short camping trip, seemed a lot of work for such little time.
