Ranch Rodeo

Jake got sick in the night and we spent the last two days indoor helping him re- cooperate. It was a good thing as it has been heat index over 100 the last couple days.
Today was a Ranch Rodeo in Dayton. The Wrangler's host a Tough Man 3 day competition. Mark was competing for the weekend in hopes of a buckle. Today Jayden and I would compete for fun. This was Jayden’s first Ranch Rodeo. The morning started out with a beginner’s clinic that we watched. The rodeo started at 2:00. Mark was on 3 teams, I was on two and Jayden was on a team with us and a youth team. It was enough to keep us busy for 7 hours and on and off a horse all day. It was a very hot day too. The previous 2 days had a heat index in the 100’s, so with today being 85, it didn’t seem so bad, even though it was very hot! The rodeo had 5 events, no roping, all were some type of sorting. Lynn Elm came down and was on our team too. I was very impressed with Jayden especially being her first time. She knew what she needed to do and did an excellent job. She liked going into the herd and sorting out the steers and she did a good job of it. She was much better than some that were on my second team. I rode Tex all day and got along well with him. Things were very western. At one point I had to jump off my horse to block a hole. A steer was headed straight for me. It came within a foot of me and I let out a big holler and it turned. I knew it was me or the steer and I can't believe I won. Afterwards i thought I was crazy. It was a hot day and we were exhausted by the end, but glad to have done it. Mark had his tough man teams and was so competitive. His team did really well and a few times were disqualified for some little detail in the rules. That made them so mad. All in all it was a good time.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
