Horse'n

Mark has really been on a roping kick and in the past few weeks, he started showing Jayden the basics of handling a rope and swinging. She has really picked it up fast. They rope the dummy at night. Today Mark took Jayden to a youth 4-H roping clinic in Winterset. They spent the morning learning about roping basics, roping off the horse on a dummy. It was good for Jayden and Mark and both learned some new things.
During the day I stayed home with, Jake, Luke, and Rylie. It was a nice day so they spent the entire day outside. Rylie got on a roll picking up little pine cones in the yard. He filled several little wagons full and they hauled them to the burn pile. Luke really liked being part of everything the big boys did. It was great for me as I got a lot done, including washing all my windows.
In the evening, we loaded the horses back up for a Dayton Wranglers fun show. We took Rylie home and picked up cousin Abby to babysit the boys. Mark decided to try the fun show too and brought his horse Traveler. We also had Dakota and Jessie. Traveler and Jessie did not behave well at all together. They worry about each other and whinny, get nervous and don’t stand still. It made for a very challenging night. Jayden started out in the walk trot and did great. When the horses had to stand in line for the judge, Jessie was not cooperating. From then on, Jayden just rode her pony Dakota. I rode Jessie the rest of the night and she was not behaving for me very well either. The more I ride this horse, the more I realize, she is NOT a kids horse. Mark had a time with Traveler too as he wanted to be right by Jessie’s side. Mark rode his horse in most all of the classes. It was fun to see him ride in barrels and poles, something he swore he would never ever do. In the years I ran barrels and poles, he would never. He and I both ran barrels, not pushing our horses very fast, we both had a time of 26, as close to a tie as you can get. They also had an event where you partner and run around one barrel and we were a team. That was kind of fun, I just enjoyed being able to run it with Mark. I wish we had our video camera!

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
