We slept in until close to 9. I woke up and saw the sun shinning and was determined to make another go at this camping trip. I convinced Mark to go and my Aunt Alice and Dad were all up for the idea. Thanks to my wonderful Dad who had to haul the camper to the campground yet another time. Most of our stuff was already loaded, between the Tahoe and the horse trailer so we were set. The drive there revealed the storm damage. There were trees and large limbs down all throughout Dayton. Once to the campground, we were shocked to see a large tree fell on an empty campsite.
We all met at the campgrounds by noon ready for a light picnic lunch. With all the rain and getting a good ride in yesterday, we didn’t bring any horses today. We had bikes and beach toys. The kids loved Uncle Wade’s camper! They played in it, laid in it, and later slept. I must say it is a million times better than a tent and really makes camping fun. We spent the afternoon down at the beach. It was a breezy day, hot in the sun, cool in the shade. We had the whole beach to ourselves. The kids played in the sand and water. The water was ice cold, but little by little, Jake got more and more wet and soon he was floating all over in the water. I could barely stand putting my toes in without freezing. Luke liked to lay on the beach wet and get covered in the sand. Jayden went from sitting under a towel chilly to running through the water and around the beach dancing. Alice relaxed and helped keep an extra eye on the kids. The men, they relaxed with a good book and a nap. Back at camp and after showering sand off the kids, I jumped on the bike with Luke in tow determined to get him to nap. One thing about this camping trip, I never had a moment to relax, I was always on the go. It took a lot of riding for Luke to fall asleep, but he did and that was all that mattered. Off the bike and it was time to get things ready for supper. Karen and Orrie joined us for the evening and brought some steaks and more goodies. Karen did the cooking and we had a good campfire meal. Jake was glued to the fire the rest of the night. I couldn’t seem to keep him away. Jayden pulled out my new game Trivia Pursuit all 80’s questions. It was a whole lot harder than we thought. We had teams and Jayden read off the questions. We did this while eating watermelon, bars, and smores. I never sat down. As the sun went down the campfire glowed and it began to get cool. Karen, Orrie, and Peepaw headed home. We got the kids settled for the night. The camper was lively trying to get everyone in their places. The 3 boys (including Daddy) slept in the top, Jayden had the couch, and I the kitchen bed. It was hard falling to sleep and everyone finally did by midnight. Alice slept in her horse trailer/camper.
During our time at Brushy Creek, Jacob put a lot of miles on his bicycle. One thing he enjoyed the most was making trip after trip through the mud. He had so much mud coating his bike and of course up his back. He loved every minute of it. Luke got pretty good on his wheels too. We pulled the little Tonka bike out that used to be Jake’s just the day before. Luke was pretty proud of "his"bike.
