Las Vegas

We started the morning with a big breakfast buffet. This was to last us until supper. THe buffet was enormous with so many choices.

Today in Vegas, it was all about shopping. Not your typical Vegas shopping, but the Cowboy Christmas expo. 400+ booths with clothes, tack, jewelry, everything cowboy. We spent the whole day there. I found my dream horse trailer, valued at $149,000- can you imagine!During our time, there were several autograph signings. Very cool! We met Lindsay Sears, Tammy Key barrel racers, Team Ariat cowboys including Stran Smith. He is adorable to say the least and he is an amazing cowboy. He is the 2008 calf roping champion. He is a stroke survivor and strong in his faith. I am a big fan. I also saw Todd Suhn, I actually met him back in 96 and have watched him every year. There were several others and I must say I enjoy visiting with the cowboys. They are so darn polite and say “yes Mam” and they have such neat personalities when they autograph and met people. Allie had a blast getting her photo taken and autographs with the cowboys. Another highlight!
My College Roomate Teng has lived in Las vegas for some time. I contacted her to try and meet up and she and her family took us out for dinner. They had a prime rib place in mind. Ironically it happened to be at the hotel South Point where the nightly event gold buckles were given away. We had a nice meal, nice converstion, met Teng’s husband and daughter Jasmine, and they bought our entire meal. Teng is still tiny and hasn’t changed a bit. Her daughter Jasmine is an only child and a little drama diva. She sure likes to be the center of attention. She was very cute.

Knowing the awards presentation was in this hotel, we decided to stick around for the 11:00 ceremony. Teng was game for staying too. Her husband took Jasmine home and she hung out with us. The dance hall area said minors could be in until midnight, so that gave us enough time to see a few contestants. The room was full of cowboys and Teng being this little asian girl didn’t let it bother her a bit. In fact is was just like the old college days when I would drag her to cowboy events and she would drag me to her parties. She laughed as she heard songs she knew and told me she only knows theses songs because of me. All she had to do was smile at an older man and he was buying her beer after beer. We got such a kick out of her. She has always been so fun and has such an outgoing personality she can talk to anyone. The awards presentation was fun and lively. The guys joke around and show a recap of the ride and hand out the gold buckle for each event. We saw 4 or 5 before we headed back. It was just the right end to another Vegas night.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
