Sometimes if you want something badly enough, you have to be the one to make it happen, and that is just what Luke did. FFA Tractor day is a big deal in Iowa, especially to farm kids. When Jake was taking a couple Ag classes and joined the Ogden FFA program, all he wanted was to drive his tractor to school. The FFA program in Ogden, being so new was not about to start the FFA Tractor Day. The school had already agreed to have Senior drive day where kids could drive anything to school the last day of their senior year, including tractors. Jake never got to take part in any drive your tractor to school event. Cousin Rylie, a Southeast Valley student not only got to drive his Dad's biggest tractor to school, he was also interviewed on television. It was a big story for their FFA chapter and a parade of tractors went down main street. Yeah, my boys were a little green with envy. Well, Mister Luke wasn't about to let "Drive your tractor to school day" go without a fight. He went from teacher to the top working his way through the process of getting it approved. He had present his proposal to many. It wasn't easy, but he stuck to his plan, came up with all the good reasons. Guess what? He got it approved!! I am super proud of him. He was excited for the big day to be on the school calendar. The drivee was set for February and weather was bad the day before. The temps got up and the ground was getting soft. There was rain in the forecast and talk of moving the date or cancelling. They didn't have many participate, with it being the first year. Of course Luke wanted to take the newest biggest tractor we own, but we had to talk him down to a more reasonable plan. We not only didn't want him to be to showy, the tractor he wanted to drive needed some major things done to it before he could take it. He chose the 9450, an older John Deere that he has always liked as a kid. He was a little bummed that he could take bigger and newer, but he still got to drive his tractor and park in a lot reserved for the FFA tractors and let others see and enjoy. It was a proud moment for all. It is great to see Luke go after something important to him and see it though. His teracher has encouraged him to be an officer and get more involved.
