Our Thanksgiving was very different this year. It felt like a typical visit from Lavern and Verna Mae when they come up from Missouri and have lunch at Karen and Orrie's. The only difference, we were eating Turkey. Don't get me wrong, it was a delicious meal & good company. Karen made her famous homemade noodles, lots of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, apple and pumpkin pies for dessert. It was a heavenly meal and I tried really hard not to eat too much. It was sad not gathering with the relatives near and far like a typical year with nearly 40 people, and it was hard seeing photos of Jayden miles away in Texas. She is so good about keeping connected, sending photos, videos, and calling. She made 5 pies on her own for the Thanksgiving meal and a corn casserole side dish. Karen just asked me to bring a green salad. I brought a lettuce salad and had a fruit tray with grapes, fresh pineapple and raspberries. My contribution was minimal. After the meal, Orrie read some out of Ezekiel which was part of their daily bible reading plan and it was all about the lands of the tribes in miles, meaurements, and landscape. Not really a great Thanksgiving bible reading. The men and my two boys, went out for a drive. Us ladies, Karen, Verna Mae, and I watched a funny Christmas movie. After that it was getting dark and I could tell the ladies were tired and Luke and I headed home. Even when Thanksgiving doesn't feel like it, there is so much to be thankful for. When I think of the words, Grateful, thankful, and blessed, it has become a slogan on shirts, stickers, and wall decor. It gets overused a little, but honestly, I truly am all 3. I am thankful that we serve a God who is our savior and because of our gratefulness, we can enjoy the many blessings. There is much to be thankful for, health, our freedom's, our family & friends, are at the top of my list.
