Hay

The first cutting of hay we had round bales. Jake loaded the bales, Luke hauled with the long trailer, and Keaton hauled with the semi.

Later in the summer while Jake was mowing hay. he came across a baby deer. He was so close to running the little guy over. Thankfully he saw him and was able to pcik him up and move him out of the way. Knowing very little about deer, he was amazed at how tame it was and thought it's mother was gone. Having touched it, he decided it had become an orphan and we would have to care for it. Jake brought it to the house where Luke got a stall ready for it. I was in awe at how small it was and how quiet and calm it was. I did not realize how tiiny they are, I guess I pictured it much lalrger. They have long legs so thin. This little guy was curious and would walk right over to us without any fear. He was soft with big freindly eyes. He was so cute!  THe boys told me I needed to get a bottle ready and buy some special milk. I was excited at the thought of raising a baby deer. Upon learning more about our situatiion, it didnt take long to realize we had to retunr the little guy where we found him. One, he had a slim chance of surviving with us. 2, we had to have a special permit to rainse a deer and could be fined. 3 we learned that the mother often leaves her baby for hours in a little spot and will retunr later to get it. We did our best to rub him in hay and retunr him right were we found him. Luke was sad, he wanted a new pet. I promised at dawn, if he was still in the hay field we would bring him back in. Jsut before dark, we both drove all over in gator and 4 wheeler searching and never saw himn again. Weeks later Mark told me he was certain he had seen mother and baby a few times together.

Late summer, Mark got a new square baler and stacker. It is really something. We have always had man power before. This new set up, bales the hay into squares that stack in a nice little square pile that get laid nice and neat onto the ground. Next the skid loader has an attachment that picks up the grouped bales, lifts them and carries them over to be set on a trailer. The attachment also is sued to unload. It is pretty handy and fun to watch. Technology really is something.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
