Tuesday we had roping practice at our arena. This was a big deal, roping with live cattle in our arena using the new alley and chutes Mark bought and installed himself. I was not there for the very first roping night, but this time I was. Tucker and CJ brought the steers. They were a handful and it took several runs for them to know where to run into the chute and get used to things. Jayden roped with Astro a few times. It made me nervous to watch her go so fast! I am used to her on Tex and doing hot heels. I rode Tex and Summer just to give them some exercise. Tony, Tucker and CJ all roped and all had their wives there and Cash to watch.
At one point I was chatting with the ladies, Amanda, Kahala, Tuckers mom, and Katie. I saw Jayden chasing a steer on Astro roping. She looked like she was absolutely flying. As I was watching her horse went past the end and kept running around the corner going so fast!. I thought, oh dear, she can't stop him. He kept flying full speed and was headed back to the other end of the arena straight towards the horses that were tied. I was afraid he would barrel into Ace and the other horses, so I ran in front of them and threw my hands in the air and Astro slowed and turned. At that point Jayden had gotten him back under control and stopped. He was a step or two away from me. All in the arena were in wonderment. Jayden explained she had lost both stirrups and reins. Astro is so sensitive on his sides that Jayden hanging on for dear life with her legs, was only pushing him on faster and she had no reins to stop pr slow him down. Oh boy, that horse is going to give me gray hair faster than anything. I worry as it is and he really adds to my fears.
On another occasion of roping night, Astro was tied to a stall in the shop and pulled back. He pulled so hard he pulled the stall door off and broke away. He took off running and it took both Tucker and CJ to help corner him to catch him. I still think that horse needs some good ol ground work.
March 30, Saturday morning we had a small roping practice with Tucker and CJ. It was chilly and windy outside, it made for a very cold day in the 30/40's. Wind chill felt like winter again. I just wish it would warm up and stay up. During roping practice, Mark caught nicely on Wess and went to face up with the steer and got a little forward causing him to spur his horse which resulted in bucking and then Mark was on the ground. He fell on his side and his face and ear was full of black dirt. I was so worried he re injured his hip or shoulder. He hopped up and said he thought he was fine and kept on roping. I knew he would be hurting in a day or two.
