Serpentine Try Outs

Mark and Jake left the house at 6:00 am headed to the North Branch Minnesota Houck horse sale. They were on a mission to bring a nice horse back. My morning started with a 9:00 soccer game for Luke. He was super excited to make his first goal in the two years he has played. That made him feel pretty good. He kicked the ball in from the center line and it kept rolling right into the goal. Back at home, I took Luke to Karen’s to spend the day. Kallie Mae had her college graduation and all the relatives were headed there. With Karen’s hurt foot, she wasn’t able to go. I think she enjoyed Luke’s company. He arrived at her house with an armload of board games and a 1,000 piece puzzle. That should keep them busy. After lunch Jayden and I went to the Dayton arena, watched the end of the first Match of the Broncs series. I am relieved and less stressed not having to run the speed events this year. Jayden had to pick and choose what to run today. With serpentine tryouts and a Tuff N Nuff rodeo at night, she opted out of the Match of The Broncs today. At 4:00 we had serpentine tryouts. 11 ladies tried out for the team each performing an individual reinning pattern, and a group serpentine flag pattern. I was not nervous about the reinning pattern and knew it well. I felt pretty good about how it went. Traveler did well, just got more excited and hard to handle the more I did with him. By the time we did our group pattern, he was rocking back and forth wanting to run. He had so much power and was fired up. We carried a flag in the pattern and Traveler acted like he didn’t know it was there. I only carried a flag 3 times at home with him. He didn’t mind it a bit. Jayden did really well with Tex. She did the pattern correct and looked great. At the end of the day, we stood in the arena as they called out our numbers. I held my breath as I heard my number, then last Jayden’s number. Wahoo! I had a plan, if I made the team and not Jayden, I would decline my position. If Jayden made the team and not myself, that was fine. I was super excited we both made it! 8 people on the team and 2 alternates. When I was a little girl sitting on that big Dayton hill watching the rodeo. I though someday, I want to ride in the serpentine. Not only am I going to do it, I get to do it with Jayden, something I have been hoping for years we could do. Praise the Lord. The team is full of fun ladies that I think  will be fun. It’s not going to be easy and I am sure I will be super nervous during the big rodeo, but it will be a lifetime experience that is on my bucket list. With about an hour in between,  it was the Tuff N Nuff rodeo. Jayden ran barrels on Tex. He ran fast, but took the barrels wide. He was also acting very buddy sour with Traveler. We got home at 10:00PM. I talked to Mark as he is on the road heading home very late. Mark and Jake are bringing home two gelding, both from a ranch in Montanna. They got home around 2 AM. I was so glad when this day was over!

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
