JMO Media

Just My Opinion- Media  So I was having a conversation with someone and they told me they bought a 32” television for each of their 4 kids. Each kid has one in their bedroom. Then, for Christmas, each kid got their very own Ipad. These kids are all under the age of 15. And of course most people have a DVD player in the car. Wow! This is wrong to me on so many levels. If someone gave me free ipad’ s and televisions for my kids, I would not accept them. In fact I declined the offer for birthday/Christmas gifts several times. First, kids shouldn't get everything that they want in life, especially expensive things. Let them”want” for awhile, its good for them to have to wait and want. If they want it bad enough, they can work for it, get a job, earn some allowance. There is nothing better than the satisfaction of getting something cool that you worked hard for. We are spoiling our kids when they get the latest and greatest of everything, If you have everything, it gives you very little to look forward to. Second, there is the whole factor of these kids sitting in their own rooms watching countless hours of television.Kids are in front of the tv too much as it is, why would you want them to spend there free time in the rooms watching it. Family time disappears when we send kids to their own rooms with a tv. I cannot see anything good coming from this.
We no longer live in a world with a biblical view, but a world with a media view. We live for media and our kids are trapped. Kids are curious, they are going to watch inappropriate stuff, especially with cable tv which is in every household. There is so much out there on television it makes me cringe. Just because it is on tv and the rest of the world thinks its ok does not mean it is. Even commercials have gotten so inappropriate. Then there is the news. I might tune in to see the weather and get all the specific details of some sexual predator or murder trials. The news is borderline explicit. We are stuck in a media trap. We have allowed the level of acceptable to stretch farther and farther. Parents need to regulate what kids watch. From porn to violence, there is some pretty dark stuff out there. There just aren't wholesome shows anymore. Even the rated PG movies have gotten out of control.
Now people even turn a DVD player on in the car when they drive places. Being in front of a screen in order to be constantly entertained is not healthy. Last, the ipad is a whole other topic. To let your kids have the internet in the palm of their hands to surf the web as they see fit. Once again, curiosity can get kids in trouble. They can spend unlimited time playing games and apps. There are violent games that create all kinds of problems. People are highly addicted to their electronics and kids are going to have some serious problems. I already see the effects. When friends little kids would rather play on mom’s iphone than go play with kids at a playground. The kids just can't get enough of it. They can't occupy themselves or use their own imaginations.  media has gotten out of control. We wonder why society has so many problems with the youth. We disconnected our Directv in May of 2013. That was one of the best choices.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
