The boys went with Dad to church and had a nice day
with Dad out for lunch and just relaxing at home. Jayden and I had a youth
rodeo in Dayton and her last serpentine performance. We got ourselves up bright
and early horses loaded and on the road so we could make it to Cowboy church at
Dayton 8AM. When we unloaded the trailer
there was white frost on the grass. Jayden and I had warm coats and gloves on,
it was in the 30’s and slowly climbing. Serpentine was first and that went
well. From there it was not a good day
of competition. Jayden had been practicing the last 2 weeks on Tex. She rode
yesterday and was feeling very confident. During barrels he dodged the second
barrel and got a no time. On to flags he darted in on her in the flags too and got
another no time. She was getting frustrated with him and decided to do poles
with Jessie. It started out looking really good, but once she gets off in her
timing, she knocks and she knocked two poles- no time. . Last was goats and was
excited to give it a try. Jessie didn’t stop like she has been and kind of got
in the way. She flanked her goat good, went to tying and only had two legs, another
no time. It would have been nice for Jayden just to feel good about one event today. All her hard work and effort and she finished completely frustrated. In the midst of it all another
girl ran every event on Jayden's horse Jessie and either placed or won her
events. This girl won a buckle thanks
to Jayden’s generosity and loaning her horse. Before the rodeo a mom and daughter came up
and asked me if they could ride our horse. My first thoughts were, " If they don’t have their own horse to ride, why should we let them ride our horse? are you crazy? no way, I don’t know these
people, they have never ridden this horse, absolutely no!” After she introduced herself, I realized she
was from the HC saddle club. I still really didn’t know them only their name.
She stood there with her own horse that
was lame with every step. She also told me her daughter was in the leading for
the belt buckle. I knew what I had to do, all thoughts aside, we loaned her our
horse. I watched as Jayden generously offered her saddle and even her spurs
without even thinking twice. Scripture came to
my mind, Phillipians2:3 Do nothing out of self ambition or vain conceit,
but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should not
only look at your own interests but also to the interests of others. Several days later Jayden received a thank you
note with a $50 bill.
