Whew The past few days have been crazy in our home and not in a good way. Tuesday Jake came home from school with a fever. I knew right away it was strep. He is not one to complain, doesn’t say much at all. When he said it hurt to swallow, that was all I needed to know. I called the doctor and tried getting into the evening clinic. The nurse convinced me to wait until morning. My instincts were right and had he gone that night, we would have been way ahead of the battle. Jake ended up throwing up, something that strep does to young kids. We put him in our room on the floor and he woke up at 4 Am, couldn’t sleep and began spitting in a bucket because he could not swallow. His throat was fiery red with red blisters on the back of his throat. His doctor took one quick glance and said she wouldn’t even swab him, something she never does but could see how sore it was in there. He was put on antibiotics and got a smoothie for the ride home. The rest of the day he had a few sips of water and smoothie. It was too painful to swallow. Jake was very quiet, didn’t complain, just shook his head yes or no and spent the day in front of the t.v. I did some mowing while he rested. He would roam around outside, bored and miserable. I let him sit in front of me and mow a little. I felt so bad for him. On top of that, Jayden had a baby tooth split in two. It wasn’t wiggly enough to pull and was causing her pain.
Day two, Jake was still miserable spitting in his cup not eating. He was craving all kinds of food. Still ice cream was all he could get down. He ended up missing three days of school and his class field trip. I took Jayden to the dentist while I waited in the car with the boys. I didn’t really have much choice. I recommended laughing gas for Jayden as last time she had a baby tooth pulled she had 4 shots. When Jayden came out, she was still smiling and had to tell me every detail of her laughing experience. This was all fine until the numbness wore off while riding in the tractor with Dad. Today was Mark’s last field to plant and he finished HOOORAAY. There is one good thing about this day.
