Welcome Baby Luke

Jan 23 2008
Today was the day I had a scheduled induction. We set our alarms at home for 4:30Am as we had to be to the hospital by 6:30 AM. Both Jayden & Jacob heard a loud noise in the night at 2:30 AM and woke us up. I never went back to sleep. We arrived to the hospital on a dark and cold winter morning, temp in the teens. At the hospital, we were informed that all 40 rooms were full and we may not even get in today.
We waited for 2 hours to get into a birthing room. I had my pillow and blanket and a nice nurse got me all settled in. By 8:30 I was started on a pitocin IV. That gets the contractions rolling pretty quickly.
I have had Dr. Mansager for all three pregnancies, but once delivery comes around, I always end up with one of his partners. Dr. Hwang checked me and broke my water. I was already at 4cm. I requested an epidural and at 9:30 I had one. Within seconds, I was nauseous and felt awful. Before the anesthesiologist did the epidural and during the process I was having intense contractions. They were so strong! The epidural took a good 20 minutes to really work which felt like forever. The contractions were already to the unbearable point. One side was numb before the other so I still had all the pain on one side, which was pointless. Eventually I numbed.
At 10:15 the nurse checked me and I was 8cm. She had to leave the room briefly and when she came back I told her I felt the pressure to push. She checked me again and could feel the babies head. She was pretty amazed at how quickly things had gone and I was too. She called the doctor who was in the building and came in minutes. At 10:30 I was pushing and Luke Donald Orrie Muench was born at 10:46AM.
He gave out a gurgle cry and the nurse plopped him right on my belly. He cried as they rubbed him off. He looked big and very filled out. He had dark hair. We were all so grateful that he was born normal and healthy. We were also amazed and happy at how fast the delivery went.
They checked Luke over right in the room and weighed him at 8lbs. 2oz. My biggest baby, and a week before his due date. Mark and I got to hold Luke and have alone time for a few hours before family arrived. In the afternoon both Grandparents and the kids came. Jake was very excited and curious. He got a good look at him, then was on to the next thing, playing with a balloon. Jayden was all smiles and wanted to hold him and hold him. Allie was excited and took pictures and held him. Around 3:00, I was moved to the maternity rooms. I was expecting the tiny little room with the tiny little bed as before. However, Mercy has renovated the whole maternity area and my room was huge. There was a big counter with a fridge, a big bay window with a daybed, table and chairs, and a full size bed, room enough for two. The bathrooms were even big and roomy. I was happy to have such a nice room. I was all settled in with my new family, and realizing how blessed I really am.

Volleyball

Jake  went with Karen after school and to the field. My mom, Luke and I went to Jayden’s  Volleyball game in Coon Rapids.  They played 4 games all losses. They were not having a good serving night and that really hurt them.  Still enjoy watching them learn.

Treasures

In the morning we took 3 of our 4 cats to the vet for shots. The 4 th cat decided to wander this morning missing his appointment. On our way out, we passed a rummage sale and stopped. We got some major treasures for next to nothing. The church ladies were so fascinated with Jacob's interest in old radios and televisions. They just adored him and marked the prices way down and gave him some for free. We loaded up on kids books, got some board games, and a few other treasures. Jake ended up with a mini  television , an old radio and Polaroid camera. After lunch the boys went straight to the field. My friend Carolyn and her daughter Tabby came to ride horses. What started out to be a chilly day 45, turned out nice and sunny. We had coats on, but it was a great day to ride. We rode through our hay patch and along the waterway near the highway. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Dayton Fun Show

It has been cold and windy for the past week, highs of 45. Today the sun was shinning and it got up to 60. There was one final horse show for the season at the Dayton arena. We took Jayden and Jacob while Luke went with Grammer and Po and was supposed to come later. It was a fun show geared for practice and the kids. Jake did really well on Winnie, he rode in walk and trot, barrels, and poles. He did some loping. Jayden did pleasure, milk can, barrels, poles, and a jumping event. Her horse Tex really jumps high for the jump event. Down in the arena, there was'nt any wind and the sun came out. It made for a nice day.
