After Christmas in TX

December 26, The boys and Mark had an extremely early flight, 5:30AM. That meant, leave the house at 2 am which meant little to no sleep. Jake chose not to sleep. They got into Abilene by 10:30Am, had some lunch and drove to the house. They got to meet Colt for the first time. We all sat together and exchanged Christmas presents and soak in some baby Colt grunts and stretches. Mark was pretty happy to hold his new baby grandson. It always makes my mama heart happy when we are all together.  Once on the ranch, Luke jumped right in the truck with Noah to go along with him to take the yellow horse to the vet. His eye is a nasty mess and his ear is a little drooped along with his lip. I couldn't tell if his lip and ear could be part of major eye infection, but I had a feeling he did some nerve damage to himself. It didn't look good. Noah dropped the horse off an hour away in Coleman. Noah and Luke also went hog hunting when they got back and Luke killed a hog. We settled the boys i

House Progress

It's extra special that Jayden and Noah got to be part of building their house. They did little things here and there, but they will always remember exactly what they put into it. Jayden, pregnant and all, came up with the little nursery room next to their bedroom. She had the vision and made it happen. She helped stain and air gun the shiplap wall. Little by little their future home is coming together and it is going to be amazing!

Christmas Happenings

Christmas Eve eve, Saturday 12/23 Jayden was discharged from the hospital after her surgery. She was back to her house late morning. On Christmas Eve Ester was in the kitchen from morning until evening. She made a large supply of tamales. She made numerous to freeze. She also made her really good hominy soup. We ate around 7pm and after Jayden fed baby boy, we started games. Ester loves to have lots of fun activities, so we played games for prizes. It was also a pajama theme night so we all wore our pajamas. I happened to throw in Jayden and my fuzzy Christmas pants, so I was prepared. We had a drink competition that they all really got into. Everyone was sure that their drink was going to win. I had a great idea, and mine actually won! It was pretty good, I made chocolate malts and added kalua. I even drizzled chocolate syrup around the inside of the glasses. Their tradition was to open all gifts in the evening. The adult kids all wanted to wait until morning to open gifts, but we st

Early Days with Baby Colt

After the ER scare, Colt had to take only bottles for a few feedings. We figured out he is averaging a 4oz bottle every 3 hours and sometimes more. The average newborn drinks around 2 oz per feeding and a baby should drink 2.5 oz per lb. body weight. I did the math and Colt should drink around 15 oz per 24 hours. If he is drinking 4oz, then in a 24 hour period that is 32oz!! That little guy is going to grow super fast! I don't know where he puts it all because he is a tiny guy.  I noticed Noah spends all his free time in the evenings playing video games with his brother. What is even more bizarre is his brother plays in his bedroom downstairs on a big screen and Noah goes into a bedroom and plays it in front of a big screen with a headset.  He stays up into the wee hours in the morning, then he is so tired he can't help Jayden much in the night because he is so tired she can't wake him. He sleeps in until noon. Jayden's kitten has had free roam of the house. When I got
